Many people with AIH become depressed. I don't know how many people become depressed from the chemical and psychological effects of AIH and how many from Prednisone. Many of us experience some hair loss when we first begin taking Prednisone, but the hair seems to grow back rapidly. Prednisone does have cosmetic side-effects for some people, but we don't really have a lot of choice. For most of us, Prednisone is necessary. I haven't heard of depression or hair loss with Imuran use. You'll want to get the Palmer book or a similar one, as these books discuss side effects of the various treatments. Subject: Re: imuran side effects I would also like to hear from anybody about the side effects of imuran - my husband will be starting this medication in about 5 days along with 20 mgs of predisone. Also does anyone know about a diabetic reaction to predisone - we spent 6 hours in the ER last Sunday when he spiked a reading of 587. Joy24, diabetes and Prednisone use are inter-related. Make sure your doctor talks to you two about this. Do you have Palmer's Guide to Liver Disease or a similar reference book? Harper > DIABETES/Prednisone This (*Diabetes*) was one of my biggest fears. SInce I have been on this wonder drug I have tried to eliminate as much sugar from my diet to avoid diabetes. I also eat extremely low fat. I was dx'd in Jan. and so far so good, , I wonder if you should talk with a nutritionist before making the decision to eat an extremely low fat diet. Most people who do so find themselves eating a lot of carbohydrates, which wouldn't be good for ones diabetes potential. Remember that the body considers sugar and carbohydrates as being pretty much the same. Harper
Guest guest
Hi! Yes, I have all the books - but it is good to hear from someone else that has similarities in their health problems. This is all so new to us. We started back in April with toxic hepatitis and now a relapse in early August. Now after a biopsy they call it AIH. We visit an internist every week or so and the Gastro every month. The first time it was 12 days in the hospital this last time it was 8 and last Sunday 6 hours in the ER. Guest guest
If you are using good filters on your central air, such as 3M Filtrete, your system should not pick up mold and blow it around. However, it will blow the mold which is growing in the HVAC system. A common problem area is the drain pan not draining properly. This may be due to improper installation, the drain not at the lowest point in the drain pan. Another common problem is a plugged drain line, so much mold growing that flow stops. A little Clorox in the drain pan will help this. After this point, mold can start growing on the cooling coils. This system can be cleaned with detergent solution and then bleach, if accessible. Other more difficult problems are insulation inside the plenum, or plenum and/or ducts made with unlined fiberglass ductboard. Flexible ducts can be mold problems also, particularly close to the air handler. These materials cannot be effectively cleaned, and should be replaced with cleanable sheet metal ducts. A moldy HVAC is servicable and can be made healthy with a little work. Has it come back? In my apt. I can clean everyday and get rust colored dirt off things, especially the TV screen, computer screen, microwave, mirrors, the toilet tank, Rubbermaid storage containers, etc. It even gets on my dishes in the kitchen cabinets. Absolutely disgusting. And I think the problem is, it's in the duct work and under my carpeting, and since I have central air and hot air heat, it just blows it all over everything. It's really a losing battle that I am fighting. Barb E.
Guest guest
Dear All, Rita Newland and myself are participating in the Queen's Nursing Institute fundraising this year (their 150th anniversary) by doing the London Charity 10k on 12th July, 2009. Rita is running (aiming for under 60 mins!) and I am walking (aiming to complete in the 2hrs allowed!). It would great if any of you would like to sponsor us: www.justgiving.com/Rita-Newland and www.justgiving.com/rosbryar as obviously QNI does such great work in supporting practice development in the community, research skills development, the Queen's Nurses awards, supporting older Queen's Nurses etc etc. Many thanks, Ros From: [ ] Sent: 04 July 2009 12:46 Subject: {Probable Spam} Digest Number 2487 SENATE FOR HEALTH VISITING AND SCHOOL NU Messages In This Digest (2 Messages) 1. There is a wealth of information on the website, including some specific consultation questions. Interesting that the early years are linked to education, which I guess reflects the amount of evidence around linking, first, early years to later educational attainment, and in turn, educational attainment to adult health. I think it will take me a little while to wade through them all the papers, but think we may need to search for awareness of mental health and physical health links to early years. The review team is also asking for submissions of evidence and best practice. Submissions are required by 5th August 2009; not ;ong! (sorry, it has taken me a couple of weeks to find it). http://www.ucl.ac.uk/gheg/marmotreview/consultation best wishes Professor Cowley Professor of Community Practice Development, Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery King's College London 5th Floor WBW, lin Wilkins Building 150 Stamford Street London SE1 9NH T: 020 7848 3030 (p.a. Sat Jul 4, 2009 4:12 am (PDT) Hi I really think this is excellent and thought the information on children's and young people's mental health was extremely helpful and have all ready earmarked it to include in a couple of papers I am writing one for a PCt and the other for an SHA. It feels like we are really beginning to make a move forward so well done all who have been campaigning. Regards Margaret Re: children's mental health Further good news from Scotland. On the basis of these reports of the impact of the introduction of generic all ages, all purpose community health nurse in Scotland, Ministers have announced that they will revert to the former model of one group of nurses working with adults and older people to deal with their immediate health needs, and another group focusing on the public health and health promotion needs of children and families. Congratulations due to all who campaigned for this, although it will take a long time to renew the infrastructure again. best wishes On 30 Jun 2009, at 13:21, Cowley wrote: Excellent paper, thank you Woody.
