Launch of Goa legislative forum on HIV/AIDS

LEGISLATIVE FORUM ON HIV/AIDS FORMED

The speaker, Mr. Vishwas Satarkar today launched the State Legislative Forum on

HIV/AIDS, in the distinguished presence of Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Parrikar,

at a function organized at the premises of the Assembly complex at porvorim.

The opposition Leader, Mr. Pratapsing R Rane, Health Secretary, Ms Debashree

Mukherjee, deputy Director, AIDS, Dr. Ghodge were present on the occasion. Mr

Rajendra Arlekar, MLA is the Convenor of the Forum.

The forum was launched as part of the fortnight programme in the fight against

the dreaded diseases now involving the legislators past and present. World AIDS

Day was observed on December 1, 2003.

It hopes to provide a strong leadership by the elected representatives to focus

on the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS in the state at the different level of

governance.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Parrikar welcomed setting up of the forum stating

it is time we need to act. Involvement of politicians in the struggle against

the dreaded diseases is a step in the right direction and could serve be the

best example in leading the campaign.
