Guest guest Posted December 8, 2003 Report Share Posted December 8, 2003 First Asia Pacific PLWHA Congress 11 January 2004, Bangkok ---------------------------------- As part of the Asia Pacific PLWHA Coalition for Advocacy and Capacity Transfer, the Asia Pacific PLWHA Resource Centre (APPRC) based in New Delhi, India, plans to organize three annual Asia Pacific PLWHA Congresses in association with APN+ ( Asia Pacific Network of PLWHA), INP+ (Indian Network For PLWHA) and UNDP ( United Nations Development Programme). The first Congress will be held on the 11 January 2004 in Bangkok in conjunction with the Asia Pacific Community Forum (12th -14th January 2004) with participants expected from across the Asia Pacific Region. The Congress is to assist in formulating the Asia Pacific PLWHA Advocacy agendas and regional strategic action plans to be implemented by the APPRC in the following areas: 1.GIPA and Empowerment 2.Access to treatment 3.Advocacy 4.Human rights Objective: To create a regional agenda and strategic action plan on access to treatment, human rights, advocacy, GIPA and Empowerment -by bringing PLWHA together across Asia Pacific Region -by providing an opportunity to discuss and enthuse PLWHA to raise their issues at international HIV/AIDS and communities events Outputs: endorsement of an Asia Pacific PLWHA Advocacy Agenda, discussion and adoption of a Strategic Action Plan to take forward the agenda, issuing of a PLWHA resolution to be addressed at the conference or forum that the Congress is held with The main agenda for the first Congress will be: Identifying and prioritizing emerging PLWHA issues Exploring methods, issues and developing a draft agenda Discussion and consensus on taking forward the agenda to international AIDS events Participants for the Congresses will be People Living with HIV/AIDS from the Asia Pacific Region.
