15,000 paricipated in WAD rally in Andhra Pradesh

MITHRUDU, 1st December 2003

ON World AIDS Day December 1st 2003, Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society

organised a rally with 15,000 participants, from Tank Bund to Necklace road.

Mithrudu actively participated in the rally with a strength of 300 MSMs . The

other participants in the rally were NCC cadets, College Students, Women Groups,

and all thge other local NGOs. The rally was flagged off at 9.15 am.

The rally concluded at The Peoples' Plaza, Necklace road, at about 10.30 am

followed by a meeting which was presided over by the Honourable Chief minister

of Andhra Pradesh Sri N. Chandrababu Naidu, who delivered a message to the state

stating that we all should openly discuss about AIDS, and only then, can we

prevent it and He also addressed the youth asking them to be very careful with

their life as they are our nation builders of the future. The meet was concluded

with a cultural programme on the AIDS awareness.

At 1.30pm Mithrudu , organised a meeting on the occasion of World AIDS Day with

250 MSM participants. NFI Executive Director Mr. Shivananda Khan, graced the

occasion and addressed the gathering saying that this day is both good and sad

for the community, sad because many of our community members have passed away

due to AIDS, and Good because we all are alive today still. So we all should

start thinking of the community in much broader spectrum and work unitedly

towards the prevention of HIV/AIDS so that our community and we will live a

Longer, Healthier and Happy lives.

Mithrudu also would like to think of the community in the broader spectrum and

work towards a sustainable change in the Prevention of HIV/AIDS with support

from all the Community members and others.

At last we thank all the participants who made the rally a very successful

event. We also thank APSACS for conducting the Rally and giving support to the

NGOs. We also thank the Honourable Health Minister of AP, Honourable Chief

Minister of AP Sri N. Chandrababu Naidu.We also thank TRU for supporting us in

the work and the programmes that we do. Finally we thank all the NGOs and other

participants who have come forward and made the rally and the WORLD AIDS DAY

programme a grand success.
