I'm interested to hear whether Piracetam or Vinpocetine have helped anyone.

What dosage did you take? What did it help? Did you have any side effects?

I have had CFIDS and Fibromyalgia for over 25 years. My 2 main issues are

cognitive problems and exhaustion. I need to find something to help. I can't

even drive anymore. I'm only 50.

Thank you!!

Sue: I was to the point several years ago where six ibuprofen (like

Advil) quit after 3-1/2 hours, so my doctor put me on

voltaren/diclofenac, which is a prescription anti-inflammatory, and has

less side-effects for my liver than Advil. I did take Vioxx at one

point, never had any problems, but my doctor switched me as people were

dying from it with heart issues. Taking this keeps my neck from having

stiffness. I cannot take Celebrex since it is a sulfa drug and that

gives me hives (lovely). I do not wish to try Lyrica or Cymbalta after

hearing the side effects. My doctor has not even suggested them to me,

and she is pretty good about suggesting things that work for others.

However, since I work at a school cafeteria lifting heavy things and on

my feet 4-7 hours a day (depending on my shift), I get into a lot of

pain at different times. Due to the Fibromyalgia (also for over 25

years, I am 59 years young) my muscle issues differentiate every month:

one month it is worse in my neck, another my ribs keep popping out of

alignment, another it's my ankle or foot, the past two months my left

hip is aggravated and it irritates my sciatica all the way down to my

ankle. Sigh, the nature of our illness. So, on these days I take

one-half of a 500 mg hydrocodone and 1/4 of a 350 mg soma muscle

relaxant. I tried other muscle relaxants (skelaxin, flexeril, etc.) and

none worked. I try to take the minimum amount so I don't get dependent

or need the higher dose. In August I tore the muscles on my left heel on

the inside of my foot and the pain was about a 15 on the 1-10 pain

scale. I took lots more hydrocodone than usual (three doses daily for

three days so I could sleep) but I only get a prescription once every

three months. There will be days or weeks where I don't have to take it

or feel the need for it. Some days I just ignore the pain unless I can't

sleep.

I live in the USA so I don't know what piracetam or vinpocetine are, but

hydrocodone here is the generic version of Vicodin and also contains

acetominophen, which is the same as Tylenol.

So sorry for your pain and suffering. I take a lot of vitamin and herbal

supplements that help with cognitive issues and exhaustion, but it took

a lot of tweaking to get right what works for me, and it doesn't always

work. The past year I have been worse also. We live in a world full of

contaminants and problems. We are being poisoned and killed slowly by

many. I live in a rural area and am grateful not to be exposed to a lot

of city pollutants. I feel blessed to be close to nature and am able to

breathe fresh sea air every day.
