Guest guest
Hi there I have found this test very informative. Have had it run for both my son and myself. It is a standard test run by most autism doctors. Please note: this is not a vitamin/mineral test - there are no test results for vitamins and minerals. This is a test of how various systems are working and to test for oxidative stress, how your body is handling inflammation, if there is gut dysbiosis (parasites & yeast), how your body is handling the Kreb's cycle (energy). There are some recommendations to take some vitamins but this test does not measure your current vitamin or mineral status. That is a test I haven't had run myself but that would be a somewhat useful test. This test is better, IMO. This sample test has a lot of abnormal results and addressing them would be difficult to learn and do but gives you actual places to start. Pick one abnormal result and then google it, learn about it and find out how to fix that one thing. Usually, these are related so learning about one abnormal value helps you understand other abnormal values. My test as well as my son's were not nearly so abnormal so we were able to learn about the pieces that needed fixing. This version is newer and better than the one I had. Wouldn't hurt to have this run again. While I prefer a heavy metal challenge test, this information on this test *about heavy metals) is a good start. The notes at the end plus any doctors suggestions are great places to start. This test coupled with a few more would be a great baseline and a great place to start. I would add MTHFR genetic testing (done through mainstream medicine, Labcorp, Quest) and a full endocrine workup. You would have a better idea of how to address the issues your body is having. Guest guest
I know evaluation is difficult when more than one thing is changed. My first thought was 'emotional " Did something happen when your son came home? Some disagreeable thing, something that shook your " hope' or " delight " with seeing him. In our fragile state, any negativity can block our previous healthy state. It is just a thought. If so work on turning that back to a positive and try your supplements again. Guest guest
This test does include B vitamins, C and E.,minerals, in addition to many of the other things you mention. See link in original post. I believe medicare pays for it. thanks for the info. > > > > > > has anyone found this test useful? > > > > > > sample results below > > http://www.doctorschoice.net/Files%20100608/WEBSITE%20GENOVA/5-NUTURITIONAL%20PR\ OFILES/5-NUTREVAL/2-NutrEval_Sample%20Report.pdf > > >

Guest guest
Hi Amy, The only actual numbers for real levels is on Page 15 - magnesium, potassium, manganese, copper, selenium and zinc. All other vitamins/minerals are not actual results. These are relative need for nutrients. I don't want anyone thinking that this test will provide actual vitamin and mineral status as it does not. I hope you don't feel that I am splitting hairs but I just want to make sure that you and others realize what the test is actually measuring. If you are wanting to know where your body stands now for vitamins and minerals - perhaps the SpectraCell Laboratories Micro Nutrient test would be a better fit. Even Genova Diagnostics does not label this test as a vitamin and mineral assessment. At the top of page 2, you will see the B vitamins and at the top of page 3, you will see various minerals - the ones relating to oxidative stress/methylation (not a complete list of minerals). The key to these results is at the bottom of page 2: " 0-10 Graduated Scale recognizes relative need for nutrients/relative disease risk " so the result listed is a RELATIVE value for NEED for nutrients - not your current status. Still very helpful information but not an actual value that you can document and use in other ways (checking progress for example). Notice how Vit A, E, Beta carotene are lumped together. Another example is iron - the number on this test is 0. This boy of 8 does not need to supplement with additional iron (most autistic boys do not and guessing from the other values - I am guessing this is an autistic boy of 8 years). Well, he doesn't have a value of 0 iron in his system - he has iron otherwise he would be dead. This test is showing that he doesn't NEED additional iron. Still useful info but to a point. As adults (and as women) we need the actual ferritin level so we can do an endocrine analysis correctly. The relative value of 0 makes no sense to an endocrinologist. They will want (and should have) the actual ferritin number. Does this make sense? I think this is a great test and one of the best tests I have ever paid for. Much more helpful than knowing your current vitamin/mineral levels which are hard to measure anyway as the values we need are the ones IN the cells not in the blood. This test with the actual numbers for various amino acids is invaluable for determining your oxidative stress AND provides a snapshot of the ways to correct it. I just don't want you to think you are purchasing a vitamin and mineral assessment because you are not. As in the ferritin example, there should be additional testing done for evaluation of other body systems that are not working (ferritin and D3 are two important ones that come to mind). I hope you don't think I am belaboring this point but knowing how to read the test will help you understand how to get better which is our goal!
