From: Chardale Irvine <ch_irv@...> Subject: Experience with grounding? " Cfs/me Forum " < > Date: Wednesday, May 2, 2012, 6:49 AM Â Through some trial and error I discovered that when I am having leg pain my husband can just lightly run his hands over my legs and the pain leaves or at least shifts. This got me thinking that it must be an electrical conduction issue so I started researching. The first thing I came across was the grounding concept. Last evening I spent an hour sitting outside with my bare feet on the ground while watching our outdoor tv. I slept last night for the first time in weeks. I did have to make several trips to the bathroom (6) so my kidneys were obviously in overdrive but I went back to sleep right away. Does anyone have experience good, bad or benign about grounding? Any experience with the mattress pad or other products? Thank you, Chardale Irvine - Florida
Guest guest
{Moderator: Trim Posts please.} Grounding has been discussed in one of my lyme groups and people's experiences vary a lot. Some, like me, had adverse reactions. But you already seem to be showing a positive response, so I don't think you need to worry about that. You can buy relatively inexpensive materials for making your own mats, etc., here: http://www.lessemf.com/emf-shie.html (scroll down to " Materials to Custom Make Your Own Shields " ). Guest guest
Would be interested to know what the adverse effects were that you experienced. Guest guest
Both Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt and Dr. Alasdair Philips say when a person uses grounding sheets they should either turn the mains off or use a demand switch to cut the power to the room, otherwise the sheet will pick up the electricity from the room, exposing the person to more EMFs (even though it is grounded). Guest guest
That's a theory. Did they actually measure the voltage in the body? The electrical fields were always reduced when i measured them because the ground cancels the electrical fields. It's possible magnetic fields that are not grounded and canceled might increase, but if that were happening all the time this would not work, and it does even in hotels that have terrible emf fields circulating. As much as i recognize Klinghardt as a pioneer, much of his reasoning is weak around lyme and other things. I don't know Philips. If you can cut the power, that is good, of course. Guest guest
Alasdair Philips is an electrical engineer, creator of Power Watch, and an internationally recognized expert on EMFs. He told me in a bedroom with mains voltage lighting and wiring, lying on an earthed mat can actually increase the electric field to which your body is exposed to. In my room I found this was true. I imagine it varies depending on the room set up. Most relatively cheap EMF meters (inclcuding the TriField meter) are very inaccurate for analyzing electric fields. Alasdair wrote: Earthing a person in a high electric field environment does reduce the body voltage with respect to earth to almost zero (of course) but the person is them actually subject to MORE a.c. vibrating induced body currents from the room's electric fields than before. You can clearly see this if you earth them through an a.c. microammeter that measures body current to earth instead of a voltmeter. The key is to have a building with shielded mains electrical wiring or to use a demand switch to turn off the a.c. supply to the bedroom at night. Or to apply earthed conductive paint or foil to the walls, ceiling and floor so as the effectively screen the wiring and keep the electric fields away from you. Then, if you have a " clean " earth - a good and not electrically noisy connect to the real earth / ground of the planet, earthing is reported to help (at least some people). In my country cottage with low internal electric fields I find earthing does not help help my health and usually makes my sleep more disturbed. Walking barefoot (or wearing conductive shoes) when walking on earth and grass (etc) has long been shown to be beneficial.
Guest guest
I was not using a trifield but two kinds meters to measure current in the body by holding it in my hand.I never felt worse and only felt a little better grounded--dreaming more, and that is it. But some feel much better, and others worse, apparently. I'm not sure what the difference in measurement is that your refer to here: What are vibrating induced currents? Guest guest
I wasn't referring to measuring body voltage but measuring electric fields in the bed area by putting a meter which measures electric field on the bed. This requires seperate meters. This shows what electric fields the body is exposed to when lying on this area whereas body voltage shows what electric charge the body is carrying. So what Alasdair is saying is that while body voltage will go way down as the person is grounded the actual electric fields to the person is exposed to often goes up, which is especially a problem if the person hapens to be electrically sensitive. I am certainly not anti-grounding sheets, they clearly help some people, but it does seem to make some people feel worse.
