The best source for news on low dose naltrexone is probablyhttp://www.low dose naltrexone.org/ldn_trials.htm which does list small new trials for Crohn's, MS and HIV.Harvard educated Dr. Bihari has long claimed that LDN monotherapy has kept his HIV patients alive and kept them from losing T cells, but the evidence has been his retrospective reporting, not clinical trials, so it will be interesting to see the results, if and when these get completed. I tried LDN for a year (while on HAART) since Dr. Bihari also maintains that his patients on HAART do not develop lipodystrophy, or if they have it, it is largely reversed. I can't say after a year that I saw any significant changes (protruding belly button being my main indicator in the stomach, and sunken cheeks in the face). I had already switched off Zerit. LDN is pretty cheap though, so I wasn't out much money. Insurance frequently will reimburse.

Bihari has gotten rave reviews from his patients (per a Poz magazine poll from a few years ago) so there must be something there....Original message: low-dose naltrexone Posted by: " Goldman" yangzpa@... yangzpa Date: Wed Apr 18, 2007 9:05 pm ((PDT))The Project Inform Hot Line recently had a pharmacist from Grandpa'sCompounding Pharmacy in CA ask if there was any current info on theuse of this substance since Dr. Bihari reported it anecdotally as apossible remedy for lipodystrophy/immune enhancer last century. Hasanyone heard of any trials or drug interactions about it since then?Thanx- Goldmanjgoldman@projectinfor

Hello everyone:

I was wondering if anyone has been taking low dose Naltrexone and if they are seeing any results.  There is also a variation of just how much to take.  When I first heard about this, it was recommended to take 3.0 mg. That dose recommendation has changed according to the website to 4.5 mg.  I would appreciate any feedback from folks taking this med.  Thanks, Mitch

Has anyone taken LDN? What was your experience with it.

Dear Group,

Can somebody tell me what is LDN? How does it work? Does it clear the mind or

work to boost the immune system? How long can anybody be on this drug?

Finally is it a psychiatric drug?

I " found " LDN in a Charlotte CFS/Fibro news letter four years ago. My

integrative MD was fine with the low dose. It lifted a full body weakness.

MANY with Fibro have raved about pain help from LDN. If you go on the web site,

www.low dose naltrexone.org you can see all the success storys----MS,

Parkinsons----and some cancers.

God Bless,

Sara

I've been using 3 mg. LDN for almost 3 years for my Hep C.  My viral load

dropped from over a million to the 11,000-35,000 range in all recent tests.

And my liver enzymes all went to normal and have thankfully stayed there.

LDN is an immune modulator - it seems to help the immune system work at it's

best.   I am also on a gluten/dairy free diet, which alone helped eliminate

my IBD and made my fibro much, much better.  The LDN and diet is what has

worked the best for me.

LDN Science site - also has " Users' Stories " which includes a few CFS folks.

Good luck!

You can always get it from one of those overseas pharmacies and dilute it

yourself. Plenty of people do it that way.

Re: Low Dose Naltrexone

The problem with LDN is finding someone who will prescribe it.

My integrative doc thankfully writes my prescription - I get if filled at

Skip's Pharmacy (compounding pharmacy) - a 3 month supply including shipping,

costs about $55.00.

This link has some pretty good info.  A woman named Crystal maintains a

database on docs who prescribe ldn state by state in the us and also a few docs

overseas.  Also, the ACAM link has a zip code search for cam/integrative

doctors.

LDN has saved me. I've always had pain since onset of FMS/CFS, but it got

increasingly worse so that I could barely walk. The pain was excruitiating to

the point that I wished I could die, LDN took that level of pain away. I am now

fairly active in comparison & feel its all due to LDN. It would be hard to

evaluate what it has done otherwise, immune system etc., but I will be taking it

the rest of my life as well.

Just got a Rx for LDN. An environmental MD gave it to me primarily for my

thyroiditis. He said he's had more success with it correcting thyroid

problems than for CFS. Let's face it, if the thyroid isn't working right,

you're gonna be tired. Can't wait to get it. Coming from a compounding

pharmacy in Los Angeles.
