Guest guest
Dear Ken From past experience, my alcohol intolerance was beer related but not whiskey related. It has eased off to the point where I can drink some beers but none from one Australian brewer. From this I reason that it's likely to be a chemical sensitivity to one non-essential ingredient. I'm also intolerant of red wines (can have a mouthful but no more) but can drink port which is a fortified red wine (histamines?) I am at present using a topical alcohol based medication. The evaporating alcohol fumes leave me breathless for a couple of minutes but have no long-lasting effect so I suspect that it is not the ethanol as such that does the damage. I haven't frequented bars for 40 years or more , however recently, I had the misfortune to go into a bar, the smell of stale beer was revolting but otherwise did me no apparent harm Regards R (in Oz) Alcohol and tintures.... >I observed that some CFS cannot be in the same room as an open beer or a >glass of whiskey, etc. I am speculating that alcohol intolerance may be >in some, aroma intolerance (MCS); especially if the person is gluten >sensitive and the alcohol is whiskey or beer. > > I am also aware that some CFSers take tinctures > (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tincture) which uses pure distilled alcohol. > >
Guest guest
i recently took a tincture with alcohol for a cough and heated it the required time to get the alcohol out of it. it made me drunk. i also feel weird, kind of sick to my stomach if food is cooked in wine. > > I observed that some CFS cannot be in the same room as an open beer or a glass of whiskey, etc. I am speculating that alcohol intolerance may be in some, aroma intolerance (MCS); especially if the person is gluten sensitive and the alcohol is whiskey or beer. > > I am also aware that some CFSers take tinctures (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tincture) which uses pure distilled alcohol. > > This is why I am trying to identify if there is a subset and their symptoms. Guest guest
It has been a long time since I've had much alchohol, maybe an aniversary 15 years ago or so. I've had a sip or two of beer without any noticeable effects since then. But your question reminded me that I've been told that I have hypoglycemia now and one is not supposed to have any alcohol with that. That made me look at the tinctures that I take since I have been taking a lot more of them lately for anxiety. One of them is 50% alcohol, the rest being water and glycerine. The other is 70% water, 15% alcohol and 15% glycerine. It would probably be good for me to double check with my acupuncturist about this but those levels are probably low enough. I did make a point of getting my stevia without alcohol the last time I got the liquid form. Beverly H I observed that some CFS cannot be in the same room as an open beer or a glass of whiskey, etc. It's significant because items like mastic, myrrh, and frankincense (boswellia) are traditionally done as tinctures to promote absorbency. So for alcohol question it would be distilled pure alcohol + optional flavoring, i.e. Vodka, Ouzo (which has mastic gum), Snapps, Gin. but not cognac or whiskey. Guest guest
Does anyone else get high tachycardia when they drink alcohol? I have not touched it since 2002. After a few times of a few sips of beer or wine, landed me in ER, I decided to avoid. Could it be some of the CYPs in the liver or digestive system are dysfunctional? kookie > > i recently took a tincture with alcohol for a cough and heated it the required time to get the alcohol out of it. it made me drunk. i also feel weird, kind of sick to my stomach if food is cooked in wine. > > --
Guest guest
I'm not sure how to trim a post, so hope all the other alcohol posts don't show up below this. Raised by 2 feral drunks for parents, I decided before trying a drop I'd never become them. My limit on the rare occasion I drink- 4x a yearish- is one beer, 2 at most. That's small bottle, light, organic. Wine is generally too harsh, & white makes me want to puke. Had a " Summer Shandy " - likely nonorganic- out of a big tin can on a lark this week to no ill. In fact, I didn't feel it at all. Whether this sensitivity's due to phys reasons or psychological, I can't know. I believe I willed myself into an allergy, which is fine by me. Never has issues w tinctures but I can feel the alcohol slightly. I used alcohol wipes, etc. w no prob. What I for one AM sensitive to is noise, lights, textures, temps, air quality, senses I get off people walking by, colors, things people unwittingly or wittingly say. Violence in any form. Animals love me. When I do less sugar (hello, Reeces?), I get the heart pounding thing with a bite of choco. I sleep with 4 fans, block all light, & use a string light for ambient. Get overwhelmed by more than a little time with people & parties I've avoided most of my life. Real career fauz paux. As a college teacher over a decade, I can't imagine now how I did it just 2 years back; 50 people in a room is 100 eyes on you, much less the indiv. energies you get off each person. Yes, my " sensitivity " drives me bug**** insane & seems to deepen over the years. I also have PTSD via childhood abuse & et al., & just began MINIPRESS, a sleeping pill that's guar. to knock out nightmares (several a week since forever). 1st night on it had one of the worst in 50 years. But hey, it was creative. Any med I 1/4 it & see what happens. Also been a vegetarian since 1978, which, shortly after becoming, increased sensitivity severalfold. Just began liver-bovine-who-knows-what for adrenals & had hoped it'd have a pos. impact on crying at anything bc I'm oh sooo sensitive. Last thing I'll say is I had bad headaches thru 20'sish until I accessed my anger--- & stopped *crying* if I got angry & expressed anger instead. Relief. As I had a setback, I can't keep up with these digests. If anyone did email me or reply & need an answer, pls. just email me again. Apologies. Be weller, CL
