Guest guest
Hi Mira. This means you probably have a bacterial co-infection as part of your CFS. Many people have this, just as they have active viral infections such as EBV, HHV6, etc. You would need accurate testing to know which bacteria you have.  xoxoxo Sue ________________________________ From: Mira Ghoshal <mirasghoshal@...> Sent: Saturday, June 9, 2012 4:57:25 AM Subject: Doxycycline and tick bite  Dear Group, Can somebody explain this to me because I am at a loss for words. I got a tick bite about 11 days ago and the next day my family doctor put me on doxycycline 100 mg twice a day. The first days were just horrible because I had the chills very often, was much weaker and then I had a sore throat almost every morning. But for the past 3 or 4 days I feel much better then before I ever took the doxycycline. I have more energy, my thinking is more clear and don't need to sleep for as many hours in the afternoon to somehow manage my day. This is Saturday, but on Thursday I drove for one hour to get to the city and then visited people there and in between that did some errands. I came back by car in the late afternoon and even spent that whole evening at a friend's back yard siting there until 11 pm drinking tea and eating cake. Friday was not bad for the day after a long car trip into the city. Today is Saturday and I have been up since 6 am and now by 11 am, I am still OK, that is, I am not falling down into bed. Are antibiotics that good for us? Can somebody explain what is happening to me? Mira
Guest guest
Hi Mira, Interesting, just reading in Project Day Lily that the antibiotic that worked for Mycoplasma Fermentans Incognitus was Doxycycline. However, it had to be given for a long time, up to a year first in steady doses every day and then with some breaks in between. There is more on the Nicholson website. Maybe just a coincidence but hopefully, the doxy is treating more than Lymes alone and you will continue to improve. If you relapse after you go off of it at least you will know that doxy effects whatever is wrong and you can share that with your doctor who could look for what organism is perhaps causing your ME/CFS. Hope you continue to feel better and better! Peace,Love and Harmony, Bev > > > Dear Group, > > Can somebody explain this to me because I am at a loss for words. Guest guest
You could also have small intestine bacterial overgrowth, like I have had. I always feel better on antibiotics because it brings the bacterial level down.
Guest guest
Hi, If you have Lyme disease from the tick you may have had a Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herxheimer_reaction If you continue on antibiotics (doxycycline is a good one to start with) you will probably see a repeat of your symptoms in 30 days if it is lyme, and they will last for a few days. I highly recommend reading Dr. Burrascano's treatment protocal which you can find online here: http://researchednutritionals.com/FactSheets/Burrascano's%20Advanced%20Topics%20\ in%20Lyme%20Disease%20_12_17_08.pdf It has a lot of information and covers tick co-infections not just lyme. It also covers symptoms as well as treatment options. If you do have lyme it's important to stay on the antibiotic for an appropriate amount of time to treat it. The life cycle of the bacteria is 30 days. Because of it's long reproductive cycle, an extended period on antibiotics is necessary. If caught early and treated appropriately (ie for at least a few months) then there is some hope of getting rid of it. If you already had it for a while, you may need years of treatment. But I had a year of remission after several years of antibiotic treatment, followed by antiviral treatment. Unfortunately I then took a stressful job that worked me to death and I'm sick again. Without antibiotic treatment I'm in agony and can't get out of bed. Unfortunately Lyme treatment is a political hotbed so there are many (most) doctors that feel that only a couple weeks on antiibiotics is fine. It's not. Beyond that the tests are very inaccurate, with a lot of false negatives. I recommend testing the western blot with igenex.com after being on antibiotics for 3 weeks for your best chance of a positive result. But diagnosis is by symptoms not test. I hope this helps. ......> Are antibiotics that good for us? Can somebody explain what is happening to me? > > Mira
Guest guest
I was tested by a rheumatologist. He sent me for a test where you drink a sweet liquid (lactulose I think) and then they take breath samples every ½ hour. Google SIBO breath test and it should come up. Then I was put on different antibx including doxy to get rid of the bacteria. I was on different ones for about 6 months and it was like having morning sickness all that time because my tummy didn’t like it. If you take the antibx just two times a day, take some good probiotics between doses. If you’re taking the antibx 4 times a day, I’m not sure the probiotics will help until you are finished with the antibx. Stool test would also indicate high levels or bad bacteria in the bowel. As to symptoms, my new gastro said the high bacterial count would cause discomfort soon after eating and bloating.
