Guest guest
The new issue(Summer 2012) of the National CFIDS Foundation 'NCF' publication, 'The National Forum'arrived today. Page one mentioned that the NCF has funded $31,166 to Dr. Grieg Steward(an expert in marine viruses & bacteria) to test for the presence of Vibrio bacteria in CFS patients. Since these bacteria are viable but not culturable, he will use PCR for detection. There is an interesting association between ciguatera and vibrio. Some of these bacteria produce a red or crimson pigment known as prodigiosin. Crimson crescents, fish hook-like marks found in the side of the throat, have been frequently seen in CFS patients. Dr. Steward will also be testing for the presence of prodigiosin in CFS patient samples.
