Volunteers are working in 90-degree temperatures. That's because the air conditioning broke last Thursday. The compressor is broken and it can't be fixed so the Mc house will need a brand new 100-ton chilller. Volunteers say they're trying to keep the house as cool as possible so the roof doesn't begin to buckle or mold starts to grow. Executive Director Jane Kaylor says, " We've been told that in this heat and humidity, this time of year, that mold forms very quickly in a building without air conditioning, so we've been told to shut the blinds, shut the windows, open all the doors, move as much air through the building as possible, and of course, we could not do that with families here. " A new air conditioner for the Mc House will cost about 50-thousand dollars. The twenty-six families who have been staying there have either returned home or checked into local hotels.
