Re: Antibiotics and Feeling Better

I tested positive for EBV, HHV6, parvo and herpes simplex back in 2003,

all of which seem to reactivate regularly with sore throat and swollen

glands. I was feeling very poorly seven weeks ago, swollen glands, sore

throat, no energy, etc. I went to urgent care at week five and the

doctor tested me for strep (negative) and that was about it (waste of my

money). The next week I went to my regular doctor (she is wonderful) and

she said my ears had fluid, my tonsils were swollen and red, my

eustacian tubes were swollen ~ according to her my allergies were so bad

everything was inflamed and irritated. She switched me from allegra (on

this for years so the effectiveness had worn off) to zyrtec (yes, I am

still sleepy the next day) and also put me on singulair to see if that

would help (I do have asthma from allergies like diesel fumes, damp

night air, other allergen triggers).

I still was not well a week later although I was breathing better and

she put me on antibiotics at my request (generic z-pack). Every time I

go on antibiotics, I do feel better. I tested negative for lyme the two

times tested but could have easily been bitten when younger as we hiked

a lot in the mountains on the deer trails. I take a lot of antivirals

for the tired, glandular issues (l-lysine about 3000 mg a day,

grapefruit seed extract, oil of oregano, generic valtrex when feeling

horrid) but I have been really in a bad fibro flare the past two months.

I wish I could have been on a double dose of antibiotics as it seems to

make me feel better (told my doctor this and she listened and said hmmm

at least). I had dental surgery in March and he put me on antibiotics

and I responded well to them. I also have had sores in the back of my

throat like pimple or pus pockets (doctors have all said this is

salivary glands draining). This seems to be a bad year for allergies as

I've heard stated.

Any of you respond better to antibiotics also and how long have you

needed them, what type worked for you. Amoxicillin didn't seem to do

much but the z-pack did the best.

Just searched Azithromycin Mycoplasma fermentans and found many references one

Most striking was the greater anti-M. fermentans activity of azithromycin than

that of the related macrolides, erythromycin and clarithromycin. Since

mycoplasmacidal concentrations of azithromycin are likely to be achieveable in

human blood and tissues, this antibiotic should be considered for the treatment

of systemic M . fermentans infections in man, par- ticularly as it persists in

serum, is concentrated within tissues and penetrates mammalian cells,28which are

all sites of M .fermentans infection.ll91 3 9 29 The importance of adequate

blood and tissue levels of antibiotics was also stressed by et al.14 who

concluded that drugs which satisfy those criteria and which are sufficiently

active against M . fermentans for human use include ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin

(not tested in the current study), clindamycin, lincomycin, doxy- cycline and

tetracycline
