What does a fat dog say about you? Probably that you

also have a weight problem. After all, you’re the one

who’s responsible for taking your dog out for walks or

a nice romp in the park. So if your pooch is looking a

bit plump, it’s highly likely that you’re battling the

bulge too. You’re not doing Fido any favors by feeding

him scraps from the table and letting him skip his

daily walk. A pudgy pet is a miserable pet…and the

same goes for you. You’re not doing yourself any

favors either by eating junk food and skipping your

workouts. Exercise not only keeps you in shape, it’s

also a great mood lifter. The energy you burn off

during something as simple as walking the dog has big

rewards, including stress relief, weight loss and

improved cardiorespiratory (heart and lung) function.

So take a tip from your pet and start treating

yourself to a healthy diet and regular exercise

routine. And hey, let Fido come along for the “ride”

too.

You skipped your workout and decided to stay home in

favor of watching TV…for the third time this week.

It’s ok, because nobody’s watching, right? When you’re

the only person that you are accountable to for your

actions – or lack thereof – you’re walking in

dangerous territory. Why? Because it’s easy not to

feel guilty about skipping a workout if nobody is

there to chastise you. And when you fall off the

workout wagon completely, who’s going to be there to

point fingers? Nobody. You may be getting away with

being lazy now, but an unhealthy lifestyle will catch

up with you sooner rather than later. And when it

does, you’ll wish you hadn’t plopped down on the couch

with TV remote in hand every night. If you don’t have

someone who can help reinforce your healthy lifestyle

needs, it’s up to you to learn a little

self-discipline. So what if you don’t feel like

exercising today – think about the implications

laziness will bring tomorrow. So what if you’d rather

have the pepperoni pizza than the grilled chicken

salad – your body doesn’t need the extra 500 calories.

You’re not outsmarting anyone when you cheat yourself

out of the healthy body that you deserve. You’re just

delaying the healthy rewards that are rightfully yours

if only you’d practice some self-discipline now. Yes,

it’s difficult to overcome the day to day temptations,

but it’s also worth it. Each time you are tempted to

cheat, remind yourself that you’re only hurting

yourself. After all, cheaters never prosper.
