I am trying to fight- Letter to senator

I have bee fighting for some time: A recent letter to my senator. It

has private stuff in it but after a while your privacy goes out the

window.

The Honorable Senator Carper:

I wrote to you because I received a letter from your office in

response to several calls I have made to your office. For years I

have contacted many levels of government in Delaware to no avail.

Your letter thanked me for contacting your office regarding

purchasing a mold and fragrance- free home. That is not why I

contacted your office. I originally contacted your office to see if

you could get involved with Toxic Mold Legislation HB 1269. I also

talked about how I became ill from toxic mold and have spent the last

seven years occasionally writing or calling different agencies

throughout Delaware to see if any thing has changed through the years

to help the victims of mold. I was told that the mold legislation is

in the House, so I have also contacted Congressman Castle's office

to see if he would get involved with the legislation. Since the

session is ending the end of the month it does not look good for the

legislation which has been introduced several times. So many waiting

for help.

As a result of my immune system being damaged in several rental

properties with mold I now have a kind of asthma that is an irritant

induced kind of asthma called reactive airways disease.

Unfortunately irritants are difficult for most people with asthma,

but I have a severe case. Inhalers do not help. When I became ill

I never had heard of these fragrances and molds causing people ill

effects, but as I learned more I have found so many other people

suffering needlessly from toxic mold but also many of these same

people also have this irritant- type asthma. The problem is that

irritants are everywhere in our daily life, and it is impossible to

avoid coming in contact with the chemicals that are in fragrance,

cleaning products, air freshener, hair spray, Teflon, the list goes

on. The CDC site tells you how hair spray causes lung damage. The

EPA says do not use air freshener.

Why are our products not regulated to make sure that we are buying

safe products? This I believe is a federal problem and someone has

to do something about this serious issue. Today, June, 28,

California Safe Cosmetics Act of 2005 is voting to make their

products safer. Why do you need legislation to make our products

safe? Seems like that should be expected. This is a real illness

and, the problem is not going to go away. I have know some time

about how many children have become autistic because of thermisol in

the vaccines. Then I read the other day that Bobby Kennedy has

written and done interviews how they have slipped legislation into

the Patriot Act to protect these companies that are making these

vaccines that are hurting these children. How can this be acceptable?

So many children now have asthma at record numbers. Asthma Attack

Triggers - Children's Hospital of Philadelphia It is quite obvious

that if someone would do something about the mold issue and at the

same time take these dangerous chemicals out of our products millions

of lives and money would be saved. So much needless suffering.

There is literature all over the place about how dangerous our

cosmetics, baby products, plastics, cleaning products, and yes

Teflon are for many with asthma. Toxic mold leads to cancer and

many other illnesses. I can't think of anything that could be more

important than human life. There are more diseases in just the last

30 years that we never heard of before.

I understand Governor MInner wants to spend $1,000,000 on finding out

why so many babies die at birth or at an early life. I tried to

contact the county office not long ago to advise them as to why don't

they have legislation to move the exhaust systems in town houses and

apartments away from the windows in new construction. I do not

have a window in my apartment that does not have some type of exhaust

system located right next to the window. When I was fleeing from the

mold I never dreamed when I came to a new apartment that I would

have to worry about fragrance coming into my apartment constantly.

So if you have a baby sleeping in a crib by the window dangerous

chemicals are entering the room from detergents and fabric softeners

that are very dangerous for young babies lungs. I get very ill if I

have the window open and do not realize that someone is doing

wash. It is just like placing a baby by the exhaust from you

dryer. Just recently I came across an article about how 2/3 of

birth defects are caused from our cosmetics and the FDA is keeping it

recently came across

this report written by Rep. Henry A. Waxman, that examines how the

Bush Administration responded to a landmark effort by the European

Union to reduce the risks of chemical exposure. The report is based

on documents obtained by the Environmental Health Fund, a small

nonprofit environmental organization and provided to the Special

Investigations Division. These documents show that the

Administration mounted a campaign to block the efforts of the

European Union to regulate chemical companies.

From a paragraph of the report:

The current legislative framework for chemicals is inadequate. It

has not provided sufficient information on the effects of chemicals

on human health and the environment, and where risks are identified,

it is slow to assess them and introduce risk management measures.

These shortcomings have potentially put human health and the

environment at risk.

Since Delaware is a large chemical, pharmaceutical and corporate

state the elected officials must bear some responsibility for this

problem. We can't blame it all on the Bush Administration. Most of

the elected officials in this state have been in office for many

years. Now Senator Biden is possibly thinking about running for

president. I wrote his office a seven page letter about 5 years ago

but to no avail.

My Aunt Lil baby-sat your children when you were the governor. I

called your office in February because she told me you were a good

man, and I had no idea who I could trust. She was hired to do a job

and protect your children. She did her job. When our elected

officials are hired to protect us, we expect them to put the people

before profit--not to put us at harms way.

I certainly do not want to sound disrespectful but I am tired of

suffering and being induced into illness on a daily basis. I am

usually fine--atleast as fine as can be, until I am exposed to these

products. I called your office about 10 days ago because I have not

been able to turn on my air conditioner because fragrance is coming

through my vents. You can't seem to get an apartment without mold or

chemicals. There is obviously something wrong with the exhaust

system in this building that when the man takes a shower downstairs

that my apartment especially my bedroom fills up with fragrance.

When everyone turns on their ac units fragrance comes through my

vents even though I have them covered. Someone must have some

fragrance machine or something. Of course I can't call the office

and complain about fragrance coming through the vents. They think

our products are safe.

I cannot imagine turning your back on the most vulnerable children

and the disabled or asthmatics. Breathing is something we all must

do. I am tired of vomiting, choking on my phlegm, having migraine

headaches, and not getting to live a normal life because of these

companies and their neglect. It is crazy when I can go outside in

90 degree weather and can walk to the pool and can swim with no

problem but as soon as I am exposed to someone wearing a fragrance I

am in severe pain. I do not have trouble breathing with everyone but

some people have a aroma that follows them wherever they go. It is

like someone with lung cancer and tobacco smoke constantly being

pumped into the apartment.

The problem is there are millions of us suffering and our government

is turning their back on us. I of course am not blaming you

specifically, but I have contacted your office to do something and to

receive a letter just casually saying oh thank you for calling but

this is not a federal problem. It is a federal problem and it is

just a matter of time that the general public will come to know

that our government has allowed these companies to put us in such

danger. The people are appauled about the vaccine situation. I

certainly hope our government will not try to protect these

companies at the bottom of some other legislation.

I don't expect that I have much time. A person can only be tortured

for so long. That is what chemical poisoning does to a person. Now

I am left with this illness where the doctors can only advise me to

stay away from these products. They don't seem to be educated enough

regarding environmental issues-- and when they are it is very

expensive. Many with this illness have chronic yeast problems.

Many of the aids patients have this yeast problem so why do they act

like they do not think yeast is dangerous. I have been to several

doctors that say oh yeast will not hurt you, and I am allergic to

yeast. I was tested and It is all over my tongue. It is difficult

to eat. I ask the doctor to test for allergies to food or if I have

parasites. A problem with many with this illness. My white blood

count was high--he didn't want to treat me with something that is out

of his realm of expertise. You go to the infectious disease doctor

and he says you are borderline immunosupprisive and just go on a low

carb diet. I was down to almost 95 lbs at one point and had to say

good-bye to my dad over the phone when he died, because I was so ill

and had to flee to Florida to try to regain some of my health.

Now my mother is dealing with this mold problem in Florida where it

is of epidemic proportions. She is in a condo on the beach in

Florida and someone's condo four floors up has leaked for about 4

years. Of course when you tell you landlord they try to evict you as

soon as they can. Now she is dealing with this mess and she is alone

and with heart trouble, lung problem, etc. The judge does not want

to hear about mold. It is unbelievable. So many in Florida still

have blue tarps from last year' s hurricanes waiting for repairs and

so many with mold. I read not too long ago a poor man of 86 years

just got sick of dealing with the roofers and the mold and just went

to the roofer's office and shot himself in the parking lot.

The court house in West Palm Beach is dealing with a mold problem as

we speak and my mom deserves to be to be helped and have her

belongings remediated or replaced just as the court house is having

their furniture and air systems cleaned. They just expect her to get

out. Just to kick up all the dangerous spores is very dangerous and

I do not want to see my mom get any sicker than she is already. My

husband had seizures when we were moving out of a moldy place because

we had to move in that danger all by ourselves. And they took my car

and sold it even though the place was being condemned. They even

sold it the week of the 9/11 incident, so I was even more

distressed. I have not been able to drive since 2001. It didn't

matter that the landlord started out with a lawyer that went to jail

and that the roof was leaking with mold. Since getting out of

there he has not had any seizures. I am worried about my mom. We

can't even see each other until this problem is resolved. And to top

it off her ex-husband just decided to stop paying her alimony a year

ago and it has taken a year to get this resolved. The lawyer bill is

$10,000 and finally they are arresting this man. Woman are not

protected in this country.

So many lives could be saved. More people are suffering from the

mold and the chemical/fragrance problem than the tsunami but,

millions are left suffering needlessly. If I have to go to the

hospital, I can't even expect to be safe. They have nothing in

place for people that cannot be exposed to cleaning products,

fragrances, etc. They have nothing for women in abusive situations.

There are some with this illness that cannot even go into most

buildings because they are so sensitive to everything. These are

teachers, people that worked in government, chemists, the list goes

on. Not too long ago I wrote the Hope Committee for Wilmington.

People have to be treated with decency if you expect them to live

decent lives. In February my husband was in between jobs and we were

late on the rent. Something that can happen to anyone especially

after what we have been through without any assistance from anyone.

We had paid half of the rent but still owed about $500.00 and we were

a couple weeks late. My husband asked the office for more time and

they said okay. On the day my husband was to pay a Sheriff Pratt

banged on my door and told me to get out in 15 minutes. The sheriff

kept standing next to me and he had a strong cologne on and refused

to stand across the room so I could breathe. Since when is $500.00

more important than someone's life. There were it seemed about 10

police officers roaming my apartment, and one of them could have

stood next to me. One police officer finally could see how I was

having such a difficult time breathing choking on my phlegm that he

decided to stay until my husband returned. A few minutes later my

husband arrived with the money and off they went. But I was left

shattered and very ill. Why are the weak the only ones

punished, and the corporations and the people of government are not

being punished for the most criminal, and unethical acts of hurting

human life? I cannot be sure you will get this letter, but I will

have documentation that I sent it. Thank you for your time.
