LET YOUR GUARD DOWN?

Monday, 18 February 2008

Well, the weekend's over and here are are starting a brand new week with a brand new Monday! So, how did you do this weekend in the eating and exercise arenas of your life?Today, I'd like you to focus and think about how you ate this past weekend. See, every morning when I go down to the office and check my computer, I have lots of E-mails from people who have let their guards down, especially over the weekend. Here's a typical E-mail I might receive:Dear : I was doing so good. I was on program, 100%. I jumped for joy in my bathroom when the scale showed that I had lost my first ten pounds! I was so proud of myself for staying, so perfectly, on program. But this weekend was my husband's boss's birthday. And his office, along with us spouses, celebrated at one of those steak places. You should have seen the food that layed out. The table was filled with all of my favorites. There were these huge onion rings, beer-battered shrimp, filet mingion, stuffed baked potatoes, fried zucchini sticks and mile-high chocolate cake. And when I saw all of that food, my food program just flew out the window. In just that one meal this past weekend, I've gained 3 1/2 pounds which means I have now only lost 6 1/2 pounds since I started! I feel like such a failure and now I just can't seem to get myself charged-up to get back on program. That's how low I am this morning.Oh boy, I must confess, was I ever a weekend eater in the old days. Back in New Orleans, my weekends were filled with movies and food! I'd be on a diet Monday through Friday just fine, thank you. But on Saturday and Sunday, oh...those weekends? Well, I'd do just as I pleased with the food. Oh, yeah! There was always money in my pocket for PO-boys and beignet donuts from Cafe Du Monde. But after my weekend feasts, my big dread was to get on the scale Monday morning to see how much weight I'd gained in just those two days. And I have to tell you, going back on the scrub tuna fish diet on Mondays was always a little tough!Okay, so raise your hands if you are a W.E.! (Weekend Eater.) Wow! That many of you? You know, you have to figure out why you're a W.E. I know, for many of you, it's because you figure since you worked so hard all week and were so stressed all week, well, you want to leave all the stress and hard work behind and have a good time over the weekend. So yes, my friends, food again enters our lives in the form of "rewards." Ahhh, yes...You've been a good boy or girl. And because you've been so good, let's head for that Chinese buffet! But please, I'm asking you to not let your guards down anymore just because of the weekend. Hey, your body doesn't know if it's Monday or Saturday. But it does know when you're treating it right or if you are treating it poorly. It's not good enough to eat healthy just five days-a-week. You have to complete the weekly cycle of taking good care of yourself seven days-a-week to see a weight loss. So, see if you can stay on program all seven days this week instead of spending this next weekend being, well...weak!I'll see all of you Clubhouse members in Chat tonight. And hey, why aren't some of you Clubhouse members yet?Love,
