Guest guest
GO FLY A... Saturday, 16 February 2008 Guess what I got for Valentine's Day? Oh, I got lots of stuff! But you know what my favorite present was this year? Well, I got a kite!A lady who has been on several of my cruises with me recently went to Japan. And while she was there, she picked up the most beautiful kite and gave it to me on Valentine's Day. And oh, like I said, it was just gorgeous! The background is bright red and swimming on that background are beautiful details of fish. They were all blue and green with little gold tails. And they had the cutest little gold eyeballs. My kite looked like someone had taken a really pretty kimono, cut it up and turned it into a kite.So after class today, guess what I'm doing? That's right. I'm going to go fly this darned kite! After sweatin' at Slimmons, I'll go home, change clothes and take my kite to a park near my house and get my sweet kite airborne!See, one of my new year's resolutions was to find some new interests. I mean, I work all day long, answering mail, making phone calls and working on my projects. But I wanted to have at least a couple of interests that had nothing to do with measuring cups or leg-lifts!Now, I have to tell you that flying a kite was not on my original list. But I'm so happy that my friend brought this kite back for me. I only flew a kite once as a kid back in New Orleans. I took my kite to a spot in the Garden District at beautiful City Park. And wouldn't you know? My kite got caught in a tree! Some very nice man was kind enough to climb the tree and untangle my kite for me and I was able to fly it some more. (Thanks, mister!) Today, all these years later, I'm ready to try again so wish me luck! What else is on my list of things to try this year? Okay, I don't want you to laugh but I'm going bowling! That's right! Some of my students at Slimmons bowl every week and they invited me to go along with them one of these nights. Now, to tell you the truth, I really don't want them to see what a terrible bowler I am!How bad am I? Well, let's just say I got a bowling trophy once for being the "Gutter-Ball Bowler of the Year!" I'm left-handed and that bowling ball just seems to leave my hand and head straight for the gutter!I used to bowl with only one arm but now I've decided to be ambidextrous and bowl using both hands in the future. That way, I can build up the muscles in both my arms instead of ending up with just one huge left arm.I'm also gonna take a course in scrapbooking. I have so many wonderful photos of my friends and family taken over the years. Some of those photos are in albums but I also have so many others just sitting in folders in my closets or in desk drawers in my office. It's time for me to learn how to put together really nice scrapbooks to arrange all of those pix in.Did you include pursue new interests on your resolutions list this year? There are so many great activities out there for you to fall in love with. I know that you work hard but, believe me, it's good to get lost in an interest you love. So get out there and fly a ...kite, bowl or do somescrapbooking. Just find something you really love to do that will keep you feeling good all week long!Love,
