Guest guest
Who are the normal folks? The ones that don't react? Those numbers are decreasing drastically and will soon be in the minority. Most health and safety regulations are geared to the " general public " but not everyone. They deliberately leave out about 3-5 percent, assumed to be the exceptions such as the elderly, infants, cancer, HIV and other immune suppressed individuals. But there are about 25,000,000 of these. That nearly 8 percent of the population of this country. Last I checked, 8 percent is a lot more than the 3-5 percent that are left unprotected. Something is wrong with our " public health " assumptions. Most of us assume that those 25,000,000 people are in special care facilities. But a speaker at the 2003 ACGIH conference in Orlando estimated that 60 percent of them are at home. Recent studies cited on this group show that 52 percent of the population is allergic. Obviously our public health isn't focusing on allergies. So maybe asthma is a public health concern with numbers at least above the 3-5 percent. A study cited today from CDC said 1 in 6 school children have asthma. 1 in six is 17 percent. Something is wrong with our public health assumptions.
