Guest guest
Much good luck to you with the medical problems you are facing, and with your decision to lose weight, it is a wise one, any surgery for an overweight individual unfortunately does carry higher risks. Good Luck in 2008 aa <amm@...> wrote: Hi Everyone.... I am sure there will be many new memebers in the next few days as the new year is here (almost). Recently I had a mamogram and lab work done. The lab work showed a signifigant increase in the marker for my type of ovarian cancer and a cat scan revealed that it is most likely back. In the mean time the mamogram showed a solid mass that has doubled in size from last year so I now have an appointment with the surgeon to most likely have the "mass" removed (surgery one). In the mean time the gyn/oncologist has ordered another ct and more lab work just to give me another month before he does surgery and to make sure the original information has not changed.*I* have decided that I lose some weight before I have surgery because I know that at 378lbs it is more risky then at a lower weight. I started on Friday after my appointment and have been keeping my calorie count low (1300 to 1500). Unfortunately I have not had the chance to get much exercise in other then general house cleaning and work. I am trying to eat several times a day just small amounts. This I know is a big improvement over how I normally eat, one big meal a day and maybe one small one. On the days that I work from 4p-9p I normally eat one meal around 1-2p and that is it. I will have a drink when I get home and sometimes have a snack, but that is it. Oh and for the basics, I am married, mom of 3 and live in Michigan in the country on a small crop farm. Sorry to hear cancer's possibly back and about the mass. Unfortunately I have not had the chance to get much exercise in other then general house cleaning and work. While it sounds like a good idea to lose weight please be sure the calorie count is enough. I am roughly 250 lbs and the last I checked with sparkpeople.com my calorie range should be 1700-2000.... I know if you are more sedentary (less exercise) that will change your needs, but we need to eat to lose weight, so please be sure it's enough. Definitely a good plan: several "meals/snacks" during the day to keep things evened out and not promote binging at night. I think you did, but it's been so long since you've been a " regular " here most of the ladies probably don't know or don't remember. > The lab work showed a signifigant > increase in the marker for my type of ovarian cancer and a cat scan > revealed that it is most likely back. Good think you go for frequent check-ups and caught it, hopefully early enough. > I started on Friday after my appointment and have been > keeping my calorie count low (1300 to 1500). Now you know that's way too little for someone your size! You're not getting enough of the vitamins and minerals you need, and the last thing you want to do is weaken your immune system before surgery! Go visit the Foodmover page and find out exactly how many calories and of what foods you should be eating and get to it. I'm pretty sure you have a Foodmover gadget, right? If not, print off the calorie card that you need and hang it in your kitchen and use that as a guide. http://members.tripod.com/sue_in_nj/fm.htm Good luck, and let us know how you're doing! We miss you! Sue in NJ

I have been lurking, reading but because I felt guilty about not doing anything myself I just didn't reply. > Yikes! We won't tell the girls anything until we know for sure. The good news is last time they didn't need to do any chemo for the cancer, just remove it and be done with it... hopefully that is all they will do this time. > Now you know that's way too little for someone your size! I know 1800 to 2000 is about where I should be. I hit that last night and then some, but alot of those cals were very empty. I forgot a couple of things on Sunday while I was at work and my 1500 went up to 1800 so the only day that I was under that was on Saturday when I was about 1100 cals. I'm pretty sure you have a Foodmover > gadget, right? I do have it I am pretty sure it is sitting right next to me in my desk drawer. I guess I really should pull it out and start using it. > Good luck, and let us know how you're doing! We miss you! > Thanks Sue! I will keep you all updated! Now to get my exercise in.... that is always the tough part for me. a
Guest guest
Hi a, Keep in mind that sugar and starches (that turn into sugar in the body) FEED cancer, cause obesity, etc. Fats and proteins are what build the cells that actually EAT cancer cells through a process calls phagocytosis. You might want to read this article: Can a High-Fat Diet Beat Cancer? http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1662484,00.html The other great thing about a low carb diet is that you don't have to eat low calorie to reverse diseases and lose weight! You have to eat low calorie when you do a high carb diet because carbs can only be used for energy in the body.. all that sugar must be burned off. Whereas fat and protein are what your whole body is made up of.. there are ZERO parts of your body that are made from carbs/sugar.. your brain is 80% cholesterol! Please let me know if you would like to know more. Luv, Debby San , CA 147 pounds lost! 100% of health issues reversed! I'm sure we're all saying prayers and sending healthy vibes your way. Can you feel them? >but alot of those cals were very empty. You're an old pro at this and know how to solve that problem. It's probably hard, trying to feed yourself one way and the rest of the crew another, but it *can* be done. >Now to get my exercise > in.... that is always the tough part for me. How about during your break times at work? Is there any way to just walk the aisles back and forth a few times, or do your back and feet bother you so much from all that standing at the register that you just *need* to sit the short time you're allowed to? I just had more lab work drawn today and oh yes... I get to see a cardiologist tomorrow because of some chest pains I was having about 2-3 weeks ago. I'm sure he will not find anything, but heck that is what I thought of the mamogram. > > While it sounds like a good idea to lose weight please be sure the calorie > count is enough. Yes.... I know I am up to 1800 cals more then that yesterday I'm sure I found some of the left over stocking candy and munched on it here and there and next thing I knew it was almost gone. UGH! Today I stopped and had breakfast before I thought about it, old habits die hard I guess. I have had a good lunch with low calories and will get something later tonight for dinner that is low cal as well to help make up for it. > Definitely a good plan: several " meals/snacks " during the day to keep > things evened out and not promote binging at night. > > Good luck to you, will be watching your progress and WELCOME BACK!! > Thanks !!!!!
