RECALL

Monday, 10 March 2008

Seems you can't pick up a newspaper or turn on the evening news these days without hearing about a new product recall.

I can remember them recalling dog food and it was one of those fancy brands, too. Next, they were recalling toys made in China because they contained unacceptable levels of lead paint. Oh, no!

I wonder what they do with all of the "Barbie" ponies they have to call back? Do they just have a huge "Barbie" pony landfill somewhere? Centuries from now, archeologists will be excavating some earth in China and find 400,000 Barbie Ponies buried in the ground. I wonder what they'll be thinking...What is all this?

Lately, it seems just about anything can be recalled.

I can remember how they used to have to recall cars to fix this gadget or that on it. But lately, it seems just about anything can be recalled!

One of the latest recalls here in the U.S. was for, believe it or not...beef! And how scary, considering that the number one type of restaurant in our country is steakhouses! I'm telling you, in just a four-block radius of my house, three new steak places just opened up. Last night, I could have sworn I spotted a cow running through my back yard. (I guess he was trying to escape!)

I'm ready to announce a recall of my own.

A recall happens when a product is deemed unsafe or unhealthy for the consumer. But enough of the government-sponsored recalls. Today, I'm ready to announce a recall of my own.

I want you to go into your kitchens, look through your cabinets, your refrigerators and freezers and find all of the foods that are unwise and unhealthy for you eat on your weight-loss journeys. Recall!

So come on, you know what foods they are. What's unsafe and/or unhealthy for you in your kitchen, huh? Bags of potato chips? A drawer-full of candy bars and cookies? A freezer full of ice cream? And how's about the fridge? What's in there that's not helping you lose weight?

You know, for a lot of us who're tying to lose extra pounds, we can't keep any of that stuff in our kitchens. Why? Because, and let's face it, we're not strong enough yet to say no them. So here's what I want you to do.

Get your money back and let's shop all over again.

I want you to get some of those brown paper or white plastic bags you've been saving from the supermarket and fill them with all of the no-no foods you've recalled from your kitchens. Now, load the car with them and head right back to the grocery store with them. Once you arrive, tell the lady in customer service that all of the foods you're returning have been recalled. Get your money back and let's shop all over again.

This time, I want you buy lots of healthy salad fixings. You know, things like lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and celery. Since you're already in the produce department, I want you to also pick up some fresh fruits like apples, pears, oranges and mangos.

Push your cart over to the meat department and pick out some nice chicken breasts and ground turkey. Then head for the rice and grains aisles to pick up some brown rice, dry beans and some oatmeal. Then swing over to the diary section and pick up some yogurt and nonfat milk.

You'll take all of these great, new healthy food products home and put them where those naughty foods used to live. Can you imagine all of the grocery stores around the country having people pouring into their stores with all of those "recalled" foods?

Recall those extra pounds off your hips, too!

I hope I made you laugh with today's message but, remember, the lesson today is very serious. Get those recalled foods out of your kitchen and, you know what? You'll be able to recall those extra pounds off of your hips, too!

Love,
