Friday, 07 March 2008 One thing I have learned over all of these years is that people really like to put off losing weight. You know, in very much the same way they like to put off quitting bad habits like smoking or drinking. Their excuses often sound very much like these:I really, really want to lose this weight. My weight has made me so unhappy for so many years and it's just finally time for me to do something about it. So, right after my birthday, which is in five months, I'm going to put myself on a weight-loss regime and this weight is coming off me...for good!My daughter is getting married soon and I have so much to do getting ready for the ceremony. I'm actually hand-printing all of the invitations myself. As a matter of fact, I'm planning the whole wedding myself, all the way down to scheduling the two harpists who will be playing at the reception. I also designed the bridesmaid's dresses and am helping sew some of them. Oh, so much to do! But right after my daughter's wedding, in eight months, I'll be ready to get to work losing this weight, once and for all!Hey, I'm taking my family on a nice vacation to Disney World this summer. I won't be wearing a bathing suit this year because I've really packed on the pounds over the months since our last vacation. So I'm just gonna go, have a good time with my wife and kids. And, oh yeah, I'm sure I'll end up eating like a madman. But when I get back, I'm getting serious about losing this weight. It's gonna be nothing but salads for me!Oh! This one's going to wait five months to start losing weight, the other eight months...and for that one guy, it'll be after his family's vacation. But wait, wait, wait...weight, weight, weight! Yep, while you're waiting, what else are you doing? Well, you're putting on more weight, of course!And why are you waiting? I mean, what's the purpose of waiting when you really ought to be working to shed those extra pounds? Every day you delay losing the weight, don't you realize you're seriously hurting your body? Think about your body for a second. I mean, you've packed all of those extra pounds onto your frame and, admit it, the extra weight hurts every part of your body. It hurts your muscles, your bones, even your internal organs. And the muscle it hurts the most is your heart. That's why so many overweight people have heart attacks and, I'm so sorry to say, so many of them die. I guess we never think when we're eating those onion rings that we're slowly killing our hearts, our little pumps of life. Well, your waiting periods are over. Time's up! No, I don't want you to wait until you get back from vacation. I don't want you to wait until your daughter has given birth to your first grandchild. No, the time is now for you to take action, as in today. Not tomorrow or the next day but today, on this Friday!You can do many things at the same time. And no matter what you have to do, I know there's time for you to eat healthy and exercise. So many people gain weight over the weekends. They let their guards down and when they do...the pounds go up!
