DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND?

Tuesday, 04 March 2008

There are some people I speak to who know how serious their weight problems are...and they finally decide to do something about it. Then there are others who just don't understand...at all.I spend time talking to people from all over the United States and Canada every week of my life. I talk to people who have 50 or 100 pounds to lose. I talk to people who have 200, 300 or even 500 pounds to lose. I listen to each of them, oh-so very intently. One of the first things they usually tell me is how sick they are. I mean, they often have any number of medical problems. They tell me about all of the medications they have to take each day, anywhere from five, ten to over 20 pills a day sometimes! Oh, they'll have to take one pill for cholesterol, another for their high blood pressure and the list can go just on and on. They even tell me the names of some of the medications they're taking. And I'm telling you, I wouldn't have any idea how to pronounce the names of some of those medicines! Then they tell me about all of the things they can no longer do. I'm talking about the simplest activities they once took for granted being able to do. You know, like getting on the floor and playing with their grand kids. They tell me that every step they take now is filled with pain. Or their backs hurt from the time they get up in the morning until they go to bed at night. They don't go places much anymore because fitting into the average-sized car is too tough for them. Going to a restaurant? Out of the question because they can't fit into a restaurant booth. They can't cross their legs or tie their shoes without great effort. Climbing stairs is another no-no because they just don't have the lung-capacity and end up completely out of breath. Those are just some of the things people tell me they can no longer do because they have put on so much weight. I have to tell you that I'm teary-eyed as I write this message. Because, you see, I so want you all to get on program and release yourselves from the prison of fat you're now living in.Don't you understand that this weight is taking away some of your freedom? Don't you understand that if you keep this weight on, it will eventually kill you? Don't you understand what a remarkable human being you are and that you deserve to live? I understand it...why can't you?If you have "X" amount of weight to lose, then it's time for you to make the all-important decision to lose it. And once you do, I predict that one day, most of the physical activities you are no longer able to do will come back to you! And one day I'll talk to you and many of those medications with the big, hard-to-say names will no longer be found in your medicine cabinets. And last but not least, don't you understand that there are people on this planet who simply adore you and who would be lost without you. Please get on program today.

If you have a FoodMover, get it out and put it to work for you. If you belong to Weight Watchers, go back and start again. If you can walk around the block...walk it!

Just take baby steps and, as you do, you will understand yourself a little bit more each and every day!Love,
