FAT HEAD

Wednesday, 12 March 2008

Do you have a "fat head?" No, I'm not calling anyone names here. But let me explain what a "fat head" is before you answer my question.See, there's a lady who's one of our Clubhouse members. And I'm proud to report that she has worked very hard and has lost quite a bit of weight. She's gone from a size 20 dress down to a size 12!She has sent me pictures of her new self wearing her old clothes. It was rather shocking to think that they actually fit and also pretty amazing to see how those old clothes hung off her body! Now, I want you to keep in mind that her weight-loss was not overnight. She started with the FoodMover and the Sit Tight DVD. After losing her first 25 pounds, she stayed on the FoodMover and began to go for daily walks. At first, she'd walk only one mile-a-day but she worked her way up to two, three and eventually, she was walking four miles daily, five days-a-week!She told me that if I'd told her she'd one day be walking that much, she would have figured I was nuts! (And, hey, I am just a little nuts but that's okay!)

But, in spite of her success, this lady has a problem. That is, she still sees herself as fat! Yep, this lady has a "fat head." I mean, even though she'd lost 87 pounds and even though she now shops for "regular size" clothes at the department store, she looks in her mirror and still sees a "fat" person.I know how she felt. Because even after I'd lost all of my weight, I looked in the mirror and felt the same way she was feeling about herself. But here's what I've learned:The body loses weight quicker than the head loses weight. See, it takes a while for your head to catch up with the reality of your new, healthier weight. And let's just tell it like it is, it's a really big "head trip" when you lose a large amount of weight.

Here's what I told her to do: I told her to take another look at herself in the mirror. I told her to take a really good look at her body, to turn to the left, then to the right and really see how much more terrific her body looks now, since she'd lost so much weight. And then, after being a real "looky-loo," she had to look in that mirror one more time and admit that she looked pretty doggoned good. And she deserved to tell herself...I'm so proud of me!

And every time her head or your head, (if you've had the same experience), tries to tell you differently, get back to that mirror. Come face-to-face, one more time, with the reality of your success. And, in time, those positive messages will stick in your head and you won't have a "fat head" anymore! And won't that be nice? You'll have a healthy head to match your new, healthy body!So if you've lost some weight, I want you to feel good about that weight loss and remind yourself of what a great job you've done!Love,
