Guest guest
First ... to everyone in the group (and a special thanks to KC and Sharon) thank you so much ... I would not have known what to do about the situation with our apartment had it not been for the knowledge, experience and helpful nature of you all. Secondly ... We had an Environmental Scientist come in and test the entire apartment and just as we suspected, the worst area WAS the lino flooring. There are 4 layers of lino on the kitchen and bathroom floors, each with healthy colonies of Stachy darn near covering the entire floor. She pulled up the entry area in the kitchen, which is where she found a colony of Stachy that was not visible from the top ... She did a surface sample which came back as 280,800 count (100%) Stachy. The scary part is that was only a small area ... there were 2 more HUGE colonies visible under the top layer, which were the " thickest " in the 2 areas of the floor that the apartment management had not caulked. I've put pics of the floor and of the area tested in the group photos. The thing that confused me is that everywhere I read ... it said " Stachy will not grow on concrete or linoleum " ... which, is true, but it WILL grow on the glue in between ... which I guess is where I got confused before we had it tested. I'm concerned with the neighbors ... there are cracks in the concrete subfloor .... not to mention the crushed concrete from the apartment management using 2 1/2 inch nails to hold the several layers of lino down, each time they covered up the mold problem. So, the downstairs neighbors and the neighbor right beside us have this " garden of stachy " so close to them. We've tried to tell them, but so many people are unaware (as we were, until this group) or don't beleive what mold can do to you. We left everything in the apartment. I didn't think, although, to leave my purse, too. It took me a bit to realize that it was my purse making my hands and arms burn, turn red and have tiny blisters that break right away. After that experience ... I no longer wonder if leaving everything was the right thing to do or not. My husband and I have been researching and discussing the mold problem in Las Vegas ... especially that in the hundreds of apartment communities. It's crazy .... and there is NO HELP HERE from anyone ... These apartment management companies continue to cover up the mold problems ... and get away with it. We're building a website to help inform and educate residents of Las Vegas Apartment Communities ... maybe we can help someone, as you all have helped us. Thanks again everyone. --------------------------------- Start your day with - make it your home page
