Guest guest
I'VE GOT THE MUSIC IN ME! Thursday, 12 June 2008 Music has always been a part of my life. My parents simply adored music and they taught me to adore it, too. My father would always listen to music as he cooked. And we'd always have the old record player going at dinner time. And what did I spend my allowance money on? Well, food...and 45 RPM records, of course! (I wonder how many of you remember the old vinyl records?) Every Friday, the record store on Canal Street near my house would receive their latest releases. And I'd be right there when the store manager opened those boxes of new arrivals. You know how important music is to me. I listen to songs everyday of my life. I'm always looking for the best records to play when I teach class. And I know that music will always be a part of my life. The only sad part to my musical story is that I never played a musical instrument myself. My elementary school nor my high school had bands. I guess you could say a had an, uh..."band-less" childhood. In fact, the only times I got to see a real-live band was in a Mardi Gras parade. Oh, I tried with the musical instruments. For instance, I tried learning to play a harmonica once. But it was hard for me because it reminded me so much of an ear of corn-on-the-cob. I kept turning that harmonica like I was eating all of the kernels of corn off the "cob!" I even tried to play a trumpet once but I just don't think my lips were made for the trumpet. Today in my house, I have a beautiful baby grand piano. It has been in my music room for over 22 years in all of it's grandness. So guess what I've decided to do? I'm getting a series of CDs that will teach me how to play the piano! And tomorrow, I'll begin my lessons. Now I don't have long Streisand-like fingers. My fingers are rather short but they do move quickly. LOL. So I'm going to give this piano-playing my best shot. I'm a little nervous but that's okay. My goal is to learn to play three songs before Christmas. Wish me luck! Did you play a musical instrument when you were younger? Did you play the flute, the drums or maybe the clarinet? Did you ever play in a band or march in a parade? What was it like? Oh, I'll bet it was so much fun to play in a band. I get goose bumps just thinking about it!Do you still have your musical instrument? Where is it? And if you do still have it, when's the last time you played it? Gee, just think, if we all learned to play a musical instrument, we could put together the Aerobics Orchestra! Oh, I can see it now, thousands of people exercising as we strike up the band. Wouldn't it be fun?So do what I'm doing. Challenge your own musical personality. All of us can play something...besides cards. Now let's see. What's the first song I want to learn to play? Hmmm, I think I'll learn to play the Nutcracker, in time for Christmas!Love You All...Your Music Man,
