Guest guest
HATS OFF TO THE GRADUATES! Friday, 30 May 2008 Oh, I remember my graduation so well. I had three graduation ceremonies. One in 8th grade, one in the 12th and one when I graduated from college. I was a good student in school but not nearly as good as my brother, Lenny, who always got straight "A's!" Whenever I got an "A," I'd stop by the church, go really close to the altar and say, "Thank You, Lord!" Then I'd run home and proudly show my report card off to my parents!I remember walking down the aisle at graduation in my cap and gown. Oh how I loved those gowns because they hid everything! After my 8th grade graduation, I remember wearing my gown home after the ceremonies. I loved it so much that I refused to take it off. My father told me, "Wear it all you want tonight, Dicky but it has to go back by 10:00 in the morning!" Hey, I can relate to how those Egyptians like to wear those long, flowing gowns!Right now, there are graduation ceremonies taking place all over the country...and around the world, for that matter. All of the parents are so happy to see their children walking up to the stage to receive their diplomas. And along with the ceremonies, there will be lots of celebratory lunches, brunches, dinners or parties everyone will attend. Eating is an important part of graduation celebrations. Many of those parents will put on a few pounds, eating their way through this time of pride and joy. And I know a lot of students were overeating as they were so stressed out studying for all of those final exams, too. And right along with Mom and Dad, they may add a few pounds to their own weight. After graduation, many of the high school graduates are off to college while those college graduates head off for life and their new careers. And when you go from high school to college, or from college to the workplace, there's a lot of stress involved in the transition. To all of you parents, be less joyful with the food and more joyful of the success of your children. And to you students, I want you to always remember: What works best for stress is a good old-fashioned workout. So please be in shape, as you graduate and head into the best years of your life!Love,
