Hi Patti -- yiup, we sure do know each other...LMHO...I'm glad to hear Mat's

tics are under control (Ben's are better but not greatly controlled at this

point--the worst ones are though!)

I hope you find Mat a really good psychologist to help him with the OCD--I

think that will make a huge difference in how he is able to better manage his

disorder--though I wonder (out loud here) if he's old enough to better

control his OCD? Hmmm, any thoughts?

What I find, in myself, is that like the tics in TS, OCD waxes and wanes

depending on a lot of things, including stress and anxiety, of course, and

other times, there appears to be no reason for the waxing and waning..It just

happens because it does!!!!

In my own humble opinion, I think better management, coping is the key to

OCD--not a cure cos we know there ain't one (unfortunatey!)

Good luck and keep us posted,

Take good care

<< Hello and ,

We know each other from the Tourette's lists. I'm glad to see both of you

here now. Right now with Mat tics are not the problem. His anxiety and

obsessions are so severe that he is missing a great deal of school.

Yesterday the vice principal talked to me about the idea of homeschool. I

think homeschool would be best for Mat right now. And when he starts

getting

SSI I will seriously consider homeschooling or half days at school. I have

an appointment on Friday with the Social Security folks. I am dreading it

so

much because I will have to sit there and tell them how awful my sweet son

is.

His rages have been under control since an increase in his Risperdal on

Friday. He is up to 3 1/2 mg Risperdal per day and 200 mg Luvox per day.

On Friday Mat's dad called and dumped Mat's psychologist. The doc agreed

that it was a good idea to stop now and offered to help with school problems

if we ever needed him. So now we will be looking for a new therapist.

I am reading a bunch of books on OCD and TS right now. One of the books

talked about putting off obsessions, saving them for later. This worked

really well when Mat was doing his schoolwork yesterday afternoon. He

started obsessing over something and I told him to save all his obsessions

until after his homework was done and then he could obsess for a half an

hour. He did the work and then forgot to obsess later! LOL!

My mother has been telling me for years that she has OCD. I never took her

seriously until I saw that 20/20 segment on Hoarding and OCD. Now I realize

that she does have OCD and Mat does the same kind of hoarding!

Mat's granny subbed to the Hoarding/Clutter OCD list. I am told that Mat's

paternal grandmother was also a packrat and I really wonder if it crossed

over to the severity of OCD like my mother.

Well its good to see you and ,

Yes, I think that with a good therapist Mat could learn to have some better

control of his thoughts.

The doc we dumped was OK, but he didn't teach us anything that I hadn't

already been doing with Mat already. With my background in psych, we were

already using charts and points and behavior mod and proactive preventative

safe nurturing environment with a lot of talking things out.

Mat's dad is willing to travel an hour's distance to get the right kind of

doc. We may be looking into UCLA to see if we can find an awesome doc there.

I got a long list of doctors and therapist's from the OCD Spectrum

Association.

Mat is still ticcing a lot, but it doesn't bother him.
