Guest guest
You really can't go by the "calories burned" readouts on cardio equipment. They aren't accurate. Cheryl C.
Guest guest
The readout on the machine is actually completely unreliable, especially if you're doing high-intensity interval training (HIIT), because much of the calorie burn happens after you get off of the machine. Same with weights. You'll burn calories while you're doing it, but your metabolism will stay elevated for hours afterward. It's really not necessary to track calories on BFL. If you're eating palm/fist portions of authorized foods six times a day and following the workout routine, the plan works exactly as it's written. If you're determined to calculate though, most people use fitday.com. It's free and you can use it to track both calories burned and calories eaten. > How do I know how many calories I burned doing things like abs, legs, > arms? I can calculate cardio since it shows it on the machine... Any > advice?
Guest guest
Of course, ITA with . The machines are not reliable at all. I love fitday.com. But I came to BFL from WW so I like the tracking. It's just a personality thing. But to accurately guage heartrate or calories burned, you really need a heart rate monitor. I got mine back when I was doing WW and lived and died by those " activity points " (I'd give myself 3 extra points for 300 calories burned in a workout, for example). I've gotten out of that mentality, thankfully, but I still love my HRM. I do track the calories I burn still but it's more helpful just to be sure you're training at an appropriate intensity, especially for cardio. Like I said, I think it's still a personality thing but, if you want to know calories burned, it's really the only way to do it. > > How do I know how many calories I burned doing things like abs, legs, > > arms? Guest guest
so...just like on WW where they give you points for weight training, there's lots of software that will give you calories for weight training. i've used http://www.calorieking.com/ calorie king and liked it or recommended fitday which is free felicity > Of course, ITA with . Guest guest
ok I have a question, I have been thinking about this lately, BFL has helped me lose over 100 lbs, I still have 45 to go and I am wondering is I need a more structured approach or if the palm fist method is going to be ok? I have been using Fitday and I like it because some days where I feel have done really well... end up being 1350 calories and I am supposed to be having around 2000, I have a feeling I undereat more often then not, this is usually when i eat only 4-5 meals. What do you think, should I get more precise or keep with palm/fist? > >Reply- > >Subject: Re: Calories burned >Date: Wed, 5 Jul 2006 21:30:10 -0500 > >The readout on the machine is actually completely unreliable, >especially if you're doing high-intensity interval training (HIIT), >because much of the calorie burn happens after you get off of the >machine. Guest guest
, if you want this to work for life and don't want to become neurotic (like me!), then stick to palm/fist. Tracking everything everyday in fitday can become very time consuming and a bit obsessive. I've done it before, for many months and it is like a drug. If I don't get my fitday entered, I missed my 'fix' and I obsess about getting to it. For a healthy, normal approach, I'd suggest sticking to palm/fist if you are getting results. By all means, enter fitday every once in a while as a check to see how many calories you are eating, the macronutrient ratio you are following. I've had to wean myself off of fitday and re-learn palm/fist. This casual approach is more liveable in the long run, and it provides a calorie zig zag that is helpful to fat loss. The only time it is a really good idea to reconsider fitday is if you hit a plateau and you want to assess what you could change, in my opinion. Just my thoughts, > > ok I have a question, I have been thinking about this lately, BFL has helped > me lose over 100 lbs, I still have 45 to go and I am wondering is I need a > more structured approach or if the palm fist method is going to be ok? Guest guest
I do use fitday, and usually enter in my activities on there, but I think the numbers it comes up with may be really wrong. I never go by what machines say, I know I probably burn more in the long run then what fitday says because of the " afterburn " .

I am sure we've seen it before, but it never hurts to be reminded. The link I love (sorta) is the BMI one. It shows that my BMI has gone from 47.1 to 38 with my 60 lbs gone. No where near the "normal" category yet, but slowly making progress. in WAGas prices getting you down? Search AOL Autos for fuel-efficient used cars. Guest guest
I was looking for calculators to log calories burned using the equipment at the gym, didn't think I'd find one but did, so since a lot of us are gym members or own gym equipment, here is where you can find calculators to help you decide how long to stay on a certain machine to burn maximum calories. Also non gym exercise is covered too, walking, hiking, biking, etc. Here it is: http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.php *~*~*~*"You can deprive the body, but the soul needs chocolate" -Sapphyre*~*~*~*"Giving Up Is Not An Option ..." - Sapphyre*~*~*~*Don't dig your grave with your own knife and fork. ~English Proverb *~*~*~* "I will not brood about how far I have to go, but will celebrate how far I've come" - Sapphyre
Guest guest
>I was looking for calculators to log calories burned I would have sworn we had a few of these in the Links section, but can't find them. I just started a folder and added this one. Thanks.
