SUPER POWERS!

Monday, 16 June 2008

When I was a kid, I loved watching television shows and movies that featured super heroes with unbelievable super powers. I mean for instance, look at Superman...the "Man Of Steel!" I grew up with him and never missed an episode of the old black & white Superman TV series. Talk about strong, why he could bend steel with his bare hands!

And not only that but he could fly. "Look, up in the sky...it's a bird, it's a plane. No...it's Superman!" But you know I'm not done, there was so much more he could do. Like don't forget Superman's X-ray vision where he could actually see through things! Oh, I wanted to be Superman so bad!

In fact, my father even made me a red cape so I could look just like my hero. Oh, there were nights I would actually sleep in that cape my father had made for me, dreaming of the powers I'd have as Superman. But I'm telling you, I loved all of those super heroes from Batman, to Supergirl, to the Fantastic Four and the Green Lantern. (Remember him?)

All I wanted was at least just one little power so I could be a super hero, too. Now of course, you know that none of us are able to do those amazing feats made to look so easy by our comic book heroes. But you know what? You do have powers. What do I mean? Well, for one, you have the power to take good care of yourself. That is, if you choose to. You have the power to say yes and you have the power to say no. For instance, someone offers you a slice of cake when you're trying to lose weight. Oh, oh...time to use your "super" power to say no!Or it's 11:00 at night and you go into the kitchen. Time to save the day or the night, that is, by saying no to the temptation to open that refrigerator door. So many of you have played the "Yes & No" game with food for so long. Only thing is...you've kept saying "yes" when you should have been saying "no." Many people come up to me and ask, "How did you get the power to resist all of the food temptations that come your way and stay at a healthy weight for all of these years?"Well, my motto is that practice makes...power! When you start saying no to these fattening foods, your power to say no in the future only gets stronger. I mean...whaddaya think? That Superman flew perfectly that very first time he took to the skies? No-sir-ee! He had to practice flying to become "faster than a speeding bullet!"

Today, like everyday, you will be confronted with foods that look delicious but that are not nutritious. And today is the perfect day for you to start practicing your power to say no to any of the foods that will cause you to gain more weight."No, I don't think I'll have any cookies today...No, I'm not going out for dinner tonight. I'm going to stay home and make myself a healthy salad instead...No, I won't be able to join you all for that big pizza party tonight. I'm working too hard trying to lose this weight." Sharpen up your own super power today by practicing your NO'S!Love,
