ALL UP TO YOU

Monday, 24 March 2008

I've been E-mailing a lady for about six months now. She E-mails me every couple of weeks and we've been trading correspondence that way. I must tell you that many of her E-mails sound pretty much the same...like this:

"I'm so disgusted with myself. I'm so fat I don't even like to look at myself in the mirror. I'm really stressed out and I have all kinds of problems. Please help me."And I would E-mail her back, always trying to get her on the right track. I'd try and try to get her to like herself more, too. Well, after six months of trying to help. I received this E-mail from her:"Dear . For all of these months, you have not really motivated me. I read your E-mails, often many times over but I'm still not motivated to lose this weight and change my life. So...good-bye."Well, now wasn't that just a lovely little E-mail?

You know, I can throw out all the motivation I want, just like some championship baseball player. But guess what? You've gotta catch and use that motivation I send your way! And I have to believe that this woman not only gave me a good-bye E-mail but I'm willing to bet that she sent out similar E-mails to her friends and family members, too. And why? Well, because she probably felt like they didn't motivate her, either.I have to tell you though, it's all up to you! I want you to consider a few things. First of all, you are not the only person affected by your weight. For instance, your weight has affected your parents. I mean, think about it. They must go to bed at night saying to themselves, "What did we do wrong? Are we responsible for our child's obesity?"

Chances are, you probably also have friends who've tried to help you lose weight. They've sat down with you and attempted intervention. They've tried to talk to you about making healthy food choices as compared to not-so-healthy food choices. They've even offered to exercise with you, all to no avail. And then there's me. I've known some people for the past 30 years who still have not caught my motivational pitches. But I still keep throwing those pitches in the hope that one day they will catch them and begin taking better care of themselves. Some of you have blamed your parents, your friends or even me for not motivating you enough to lose weight. But let's be honest. We all know who is really to blame, don't we? Well, that would be you! See, it's only until you begin catching the balls of love we're all throwing to you that you'll finally get to work losing this weight and then keep it off!

So here's what I need you to do. I need you to get a Q-tip and clean out your ears so you can more clearly hear our motivations, loud and clear. Listen to what we say about calories and fat grams. Listen to what we have to say about how important exercise is for you. And, please, I want you to really listen to me. That's because, in the past, I've eaten the way you eat. I've felt what you're feeling right now. And as you probably know, I still sometimes still feel the way you feel!So I want you to walk yourself into the middle of that baseball field's diamond. Now, get your hands ready. Eye on the ball and...here comes that motivational pitch. Be alert and...catch!Love,
