MY KIND OF TOWN!

Thursday, 08 May 2008

I'm off to Chicago today...hooray! I'm so excited because I just love Chicago. The city is well-known for its spectacular architecture. And every time I visit that toddlin' town, before checking into my hotel, I take a little tour to see the designs of some of the new buildings that have gone up since my last visit.I have walked many times along magnificent Michigan Avenue. I just love Chicago's downtown because it's so alive and so many people live right there in the heart of the city.

So what brings me to Chicago this trip? Well, one word...Walgreen's! Oh, that store's name has so many memories for me. See, when I was a kid, there was a big Walgreen's near our house in the French Quarter of New Orleans. And it was the only drugstore my parents ever went to. In fact, Walgreen's even saved my life a few times! When I had very bad asthma as a child, Walgreen's carried an inhaler I used to help with my breathing. There was this one time I lost my inhaler though and I went into the Walgreen's store in the Quarter for help. Would you believe the pharmacy called my doctor's office to get the inhaler I used? They got it for me then had me sit in the store's office and use it until I got better. Talk about customer care!

And here I am now in Chicago, all these years later to do a big promotion for this wonderful chain! Walgreen's will be debuting my Sweatin' To The Oldies DVDs in their stores all over the country and they have a big couple of days planned for me in Chicago.I start my day off tomorrow with lots of press. I'll be doing the WGN-TV morning show and their afternoon show, too. I'll also be doing some radio and a couple of newspaper interviews while I'm in Chicago. Also on Friday, I'll be doing a personal appearance at the Walgreen's store in Western Springs, Illinois from 5-7PM. On Saturday, I'll be at the Walgreen's store in Park Ridge, Illinois from 11AM to 1PM. After that, I'll be heading home to Los Angeles to do my Lighten Up radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio.

So if you're in the neighborhood, come on out and say HI! You know I just love meeting new people and seeing old friends during my store appearances. I've been doing these kinds of appearances since my old General Hospital days and I still love them. It's always great meeting people, spending a little time with them and getting to listen to their stories. It's so cute, too. Because besides telling me about their favorite VHS or DVD workouts with me, they will often have a story about when or where they first met me. They also love to tell me about some of the TV shows they've enjoyed seeing me on. I'm talking everything from my appearances on Whose Line Is It Anyway to my recent sketch on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

And I'm always amazed at the different age groups that come to be a part of my celebrations. I'm telling you, I get everyone from teenagers to young adults to people in their 70's and 80s! Oh, I hug 'em. kiss 'em and sometimes even do a little dance for 'em!We always end up having a few good laughs together and boy, do we ever laugh! When's the last time you had a real good belly-laugh, huh? Well, maybe you'll join me for a laugh or two in Chicagoland this weekend when I visit the Walgreen's stores there!Love,
