Guest guest
Laurie, Let's read your renter's policy. Read the section titled " perils insured against " to see if there is coverage for mold. I'm sure you will find nothing to allow coverage for a loss due to mold. You should find the following perils named: Fire, smoke, storm, theft, and a number of other perils. Then look for the exclusions section and among the several exclusions you may find listed: vermin. Mold is often considered as vermin and automatically excluded unless caused by the water used to put out a fire.. or the water from storm damage. This coverage for mold is usually a part of the earlier claim for the fire damage or the storm damage. There is another part of the renter's or homeowner's policy that is of a concern. Somewhere there is mention that only sudden and unexpected occurrences are required for a coverage. Sorry to say that in the opinion of this retired insurance broker there is no coverage for mold existing for more than a month. I'll be happy to further discuss your claim privately. Ken [] The Insurance Game ... Any suggestions? We've never had to file a claim with our insurance company before ... until now, with our renters insurance policy. It's with Allstate, and as far as I can tell, they cover mold contamination. We called them about a week and a half ago ... we filed a claim and have been shuffled around from adjustor to adjustor ... people call us almost daily to " get the details " and let us know that we're being assigned to an adjustor " closer to home " . Does anyone know ... Is this common practice? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Guest guest
They are probably trying to size everything up before sending someone out, because it is so complicated. Get ready for them now to cancel your insurance coverage, which is what happened to me when I filed a claim. --- Laurie <micahandtaylorsmom@...> wrote: > We've never had to file a claim with our insurance > company before ... until now, with our renters > insurance policy.
