Guest guest
KNOW WHAT YOU EAT! Friday, 23 May 2008 Most of the letters I receive from many of you start out very much alike. "Dear . I need your help. I desperately want to lose weight because my weight is just killing me!"And I also talk to a lot of people everyday who seem equally desperate in their pleas to lose weight. I understand how they feel but I like to ask them a few very important questions as we get started taking about their situations. For instance, the other day on my radio show, I was talking to a husband and wife truck driving team. The two of them had lost weight before but had both gained it back. The Mrs. was close to 300 and the Mr. was close to 400 pounds. So I asked the wife what she'd had for breakfast that day. Well, she told me that it was a very hectic morning. She and her husband had been so very busy that they were also in a hurry to get something to eat for breakfast. Oh, she kept talking but she really wasn't answering my question. And so I asked her again..."Please tell me what you had for breakfast?"There was a little pause before she finally answered..."Buffalo wings."("Hmmm," I thought to myself.) I asked her next, "And how many Buffalo Wings did you have for breakfast."Then came the answer, "Eight."Still on the air, we looked up the nutritional breakdown for eight Buffalo Wings, (with sauce), and discovered there were over 1,000 calories and over 40 grams of fat in that, uh, "serving" of wings she'd had for breakfast. When I reported that news back to her, she could only respond with one word..."Ouch!" I spoke to another lady who told me that her body was shutting down, her knees were shot and that she'd had two back surgeries due to her weight. And I asked her what she'd eaten for lunch that day. She told me that with such a busy morning, she only had time to rush by a Mcs where she had two cheeseburgers and a chocolate shake. So we looked up her lunch menu and discovered that she had consumed nearly 2,000 calories and over 50 grams of fat with her quick lunch stop. And I have to tell you, I talk to lots of people each day who have no idea what they are eating. Listen, if you're eating 40, 50 or even 60 grams of fat in one meal, hey, this is the reason you're fat! People who're fat are fat because they eat a lot of fat. And, yeah, fat does taste good but it sure doesn't look good on your body now, does it? Here's my suggestion to those of you who are always in such a rush. Take some time from your busy schedules and while you're at your computers, Google, say, Mcs and take a look at the nutritional breakdowns of their menus. Go to Burger King, Jack-In-The-Box or any of the other fast food chains you may visit and do the same thing. There's a law now that requires all of the fast-food chains to provide this nutritional information to the consumer. And you should print those lists out, circle the items you often order at these chains and keep that list handy. It's so important for you to know how many calories and fat grams you're consuming when you eat at those fast-food restaurants! Please do yourselves this favor. You have to know what you eat if you want to be light on your feet!Love,
