HEADIN' OUT ON THE HIGHWAYS

Saturday, 28 June 2008

It's vacation time! The kids are all out of school and their parents are taking a week or two off from work to spend some much-earned vacation time with their families and friends. Oh, it all sounds so wonderful! "Hey, Mom and Dad...are we there yet?!"Some of you will head out to one of those big water parks. There, all day, you'll spend a hot summer afternoon in the water or find yourself whizzing down one of those giant water slides into a big pool of water...splash!

Some of you will hit the big amusement parks. There's Disneyland, Sea World, Walt Disney World or one of those huge Six Flags theme parks. (They're the ones with the really big scary roller coasters!) You and the family will pack up the SUV and head for places like Los Angeles, Orlando or any of the great vacation spots in between.Millions of you will head for Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Canyon or Mt. Rushmore. Some families will opt for more adventurous vacations like going white-water rafting. Oh, how exhilarating that must be! (ly, it would scare me and my hair to death!)

Yep, it's good to take your body and mind on vacation. You've earned and need that break. But before you leave, there's one thing you must not forget to pack. And that would be your weight-loss program! That's right, it's every bit as important as anything else you might pack away in your set of Samsonite! But, sadly, many people don't bring their weight-loss programs on vacation with them. Before they hit they highway, they'll send me an E-Mail like this, ", I'm going on vacation but I'm not going to gain any weight while I'm away! No-sir-EE! I know what I'm doing and I've really got a handle on it!"But then after their vacations, I often get an E-mail that sounds like this: "I'm back from my vacation, and I'm so upset! I splurged so much. I tried to get my exercise in but I just didn't have the time. And when I got home, my neglect showed up...on my scale, that is. I've gained six pounds!"Now, please...don't let this happen to you this year! I don't want you coming back from your vacation with a weight gain...not after you've worked so hard to lose it before you left! Plan what you're going to eat while you're away. And don't let vacation-temptation-foods get the best of you!

Come on, everybody! You know the dangers that are out there! There will be ice cream everywhere, not to mention those super-sweet high-calorie frozen fruit drinks. Watch out for those sugary "treats" and salty giant pretzels. And walk right part those burgers, fries and pizzas piled high with toppings, too! You'll probably do a lot of walking in those theme parks, National Parks or maybe down Park Avenue in New York City. And yes, walking is a great exercise but you''ll need more while you're on vacation. Make time to get in your leg-lifts, your crunches and your push-ups, too.

And don't forget to stretch your bodies in the morning and after a long day of vacation excitement. If you do all of these things, including of course watching the food, not only will you have a great vacation but imagine how good you'll feel when you come home. Because, not only will you have had a great time but you'll discover that you've lost weight while you were away, too! And that's what I want for you! Now hit those highways and have a...HAPPY VACATION, everyone!Love,
