A TREAT

Monday, 30 June 2008

a was running around all day doing errands. She was in the car, she was out of the car and back into the car all day long. Toward the end of her day, all exhausted, a felt like she needed a little pick-me-up. So she headed for a nearby 7-Eleven store and "picked up" a Twinkie's two-pack. And even though she had 80 pounds to lose, a felt she deserved that treat after such a hectic day.Bob was at his desk from 6:30 in the morning until 5:30 in the evening. Boy, was he ever exhausted! On his way out of the office, he stopped by the snack room, went to the vending machine and bought himself a Hershey Bar with almonds. Bob knew how much he wanted to lose those extra 50 pounds on his body. And yet, there he was snacking on a chocolate bar.

We're all like a and Bob in many ways. We still turn to food when we're going through stressful or emotional moments. But we all also know that in just a few minutes after we eat those fattening treats, the guilt sets in and we become very upset with ourselves. "Why did I eat that donut? I mean, is it going to help me reach my weight-loss goal?"Have you ever found yourself asking that kind of question of yourself? Look, I want you to have a treat or a snack mid-morning or mid-afternoon. But they have to be healthy snacks. And you know what those healthy snacks should be, too. A cup of nonfat yogurt, for instance. An apple or maybe one of those delicious Bartlett Pears you can find in your grocer's produce section these days. You can munch on carrot or celery sticks. These are all snacks that can fill you up while at the same time, are very beneficial to your body.

Eating donuts, candy bars or Twinkies contribute nothing healthy to your body. Remember, you're on a food program that you must stay true to this time. How many weight-loss programs have you been on in the past, huh? Come on, you know the rules. You have to count everything you're eating. And even though a donut may look innocent enough to you, don't forget, it contains two portions of starch, 1-2 portions of fat and 1-2 portions of fruit. (Sugar.)So, do you want to waste those portions of food on empty, high-fat calories? No, you don't! You want to stick with your food program so that you can get that extra weight off your body and for good this time!So start watching your treats this week and make sure you're snacking on things that do your body some good. That's right, give your body...a real TREAT!Love,
