Guest guest
STAYING THE SAME Thursday, 22 May 2008 When I was in New York City and Buffalo last week, many of our Webbies and lots of people I've known for years came out to see me. And you know I'm always so happy to see everyone because they're really like members of my extended family. My eyes light up when I see someone that I've known a long time. Whether I met them on one of my cruises, on at retreat at Slimmons, at another appearance or where ever, I'm always thrilled to see them again. But then I take a good look and discover that many of them are still at the same weight they were when I saw them last. If they were at goal before and had stayed there, well that's a good thing, but...But some of these ladies have lost five pounds or ten pounds and then gained it back. Some of them may have lost 20-25 pounds but have another 50-100 pounds to lose. Then, like I said, there are those among them who have simply stayed the same weight all of this time. And I have to tell you that my heart breaks for them. Because I know it's hard to carry all that weight around, year after year and, in many cases, decade after decade. And as we get older, it gets a little harder to rev up both our motivation and metabolism. I look into the eyes of many of these friends of mine and I see such sadness. Their eyes tell me that they feel they've disappointed me. But you know what? That's really not true. It's more true that they have probably disappointed themselves. And when you keep on going on-and-off your FoodMover and exercise programs, you really don't see the good weight-loss results you so desperately want to see. And I often hear words like these, "Oh, , I've had such a tough time lately. I've had family problems, money problems, job problems and I'm just so depressed right now. I just can't seem to stick with the program!"But I look right back and tell them..."Don't talk like that! You can do better and you know it!" I tell them to start again today. I tell them to forget about yesterday or last week because those times are gone forever. What we have is today and, God willing, we'll have another day tomorrow to get back on track and stay on track. And that's the way you have to look at it. You can't start today with beating yourself up and telling yourself that you're "such a failure." You have to start pumping yourself up again from the minute you wake up. You have to say to yourself that today is going to be a great day for yourself....I'm going to focus on my portion sizes and eat as healthy as I can. I'm going to take a walk or get started really working out with that exercise DVD I have. I'm going to find a little time just for me to really think and come up with a plan to help myself keep going. You see, I don't want you to stay the same. I want you to reach your goal. Hey, you deserve to get there. You're a wonderful person and there's no reason you can't step on that scale and see numbers that will really make you smile. So take this day, cherish it and don't waste a minute of it. And as you do, today's success will help lead to tomorrow's and you'll never have to "stay the same"...not when it comes to taking off those extra pounds!Love,
