Guest guest
Barb, Now I have heard of " having a Green Thumb " means your a great gardener but I don't think they actually turn green. That is a new one for me. Let us know what you found out!!! Good Luck, Marcie Barbara <floridabound03200@...> wrote: This is a really sickening question, but since it's happened to me, I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if so, what have you done about it. About a week ago, part of my thumb nail turned green, and no matter how much I scrub it, I cannot get it to come clean. I have even used bleach and have soaked it in vinegar, but nothing has worked. I have not had my hands in any type of dye, etc., so I am wondering if it is mold growing under my nail. I cannot cut my nail any shorter, and the green will not scrape off. Guest guest
It's mold / fungal infection. (In my non-medical opinion) I had the same thing happen to me at the height of my fungal symptoms. (Right before seeing Dr. Marinkovich.) It took nearly 6 weeks, I caught it early, and it's nearly all cleared up. Here's what my remedy was.... (this is time consuming ! and you have to do it everyday without fail) 1. Keep you nails dry as much as possible. Wear gloves when cleaning or washing dishes. Wear NO nail polish. Always keep one of those hand sanitizers on hand and use it often. Especially after handling things like shopping carts and other public items. (those things are filthy). Keep hands meticulously clean. 2. I shoved Lamisil AT under and around the nail 3-5 times a day with an orangewood stick, cleaning under the nail each time before putting on more. For added measure I cleaned under and around the nail with rubbing alcohol before putting on the Lamasil. 3. Soaked them in vinegar / water 50/50 morning and at night. 4. Put Unuleic (spelling) under and over the nail every day. You can buy this at the drugstore for nail fungus infection. Hope this helps... I don't know how bad off yours is. If it's deep in the nail bed the only treatment may be systemic Lamisil. Mine were turning greenish brown just at the edges along each side, skin pealed slightly under the nails and the nail " kinda " started to lift. Like I said I caught mine early. I had it on two of my fingers and two toes. Mighty disgusting. As you can tell and I went ape-shit aggressive on it. Angelika PS I hear Tea Tree oil is good too. But it smelled too bad for me to use at work. Guest guest
Perhaps: http://www.skinatlas.com/greenail.htm Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic, gram negative bacillus that causes serious hospital acquired infections. However, it also causes infections with unusual presentations which are acquired in a non-hospital environment such as Green nail syndrome: a non tender paronychia lesion that appears most often in persons whose hands are constantly exposed to water, soaps and detergents or are subject to mechanical trauma.
