Guest guest
Dear Sis and I skipped weigh-in this week, because we had a family reunion out of town yesterday. The morning was taken up with the logistics of who is driving with whom, etc. We decided to simply not worry about the food - we only see most of these people once a year as they are about 100 miles away. This is my dad's family and he's been gone nearly 5 years - we don't want to lose touch with them. I almost never get deli fried chicken and there was a huge box of it there. I decided I was just gonna have it. I loaded up my plate with 2 pcs of chix, forgetting that there was also baked ham (Irish family - whenever more than 3 of them get together, someone has to bake a ham. It's a rule.), potato salad, my nearly-zero calorie salsa, some Irish soda bread (big family tradition - Sis and I both made some because Mom doesn't have an oven in her retirement apartment). Lots of water, a couple diet cokes, no beer, some strawberries over pound cake for dessert. Certainly not a poster child for WW, but not a Greek tragedy either. We ate hardly anything else Saturday other than this megameal. I got about halfway thru it before I had a revelation. I turned and told DH, "You know we have these huge food events a couple times a year, and you don't want to miss out on special family recipes, etc. But your stomach doesn't know it's a holiday. Your stomach doesn't get larger to accommodate the event." He sort of gave me the "Duh!" look, but normies just don't get this, do they? I also was disheartened to see that obesity is a fact of life in our extended family. I have several cousins who have been heavy all their adult lives. So, to lose this weight just seems doubly discouraging after these annual visits. I plan to walk some more every day this week 1) because I should be doing it anyway; 2) to work off the damages from yesterday. Have a good week!
