SITTIN' PRETTY

Sunday, 31 August 2008

I just had the balcony outside my bedroom redone. And I went searching for some chairs to put out there on it. Here in LA, there are several stores in my part of town that sell chairs and only chairs. And in my hunt for the perfect chairs for my balcony, I went into one of those chair-stores to just, uh, "sit around." (You know what I mean!)

My goodness, there are so many chairs out there! And I think I must have sat in just about every chair in the store I visited. I even sat in one of those little children's chairs and, guess what? I fit!You should have seen some of the looks I got from the children who were in the store while I was there. I kinda felt like that Lily Tomlin character from years ago, only in reverse. You folks about my age should remember. Lily played this little-girl character and when she sat in this adult-sized chair, it just about swallowed her up! Oh and you know what other type chair I sat in? One of those beanbag chairs. (Yep, I guess they still make them!) I'm sorry but they were always such ugly little chairs to me. As I sat down in one of them, I just couldn't wait to UN-sit. Ohhh, oh-so uncomfortable to me!There were also all of these modern chairs. You know, lots of black leather and slinky metal numbers. They very Italian looking designs. I didn't like those chairs either.

They also had copies of those traditional Louis XIV chairs. They were so elegantly upholstered and really quite comfortable. As I sat in one of them, I kind of felt like Mozart! But then I got to thinking about Marie Antoinette and how she had those kinds of chairs but she also ended up getting her head cut off...yikes! Those chairs weren't going into my house! But I didn't really need any of those kinds of chairs, anyway. Remember, I was looking for outdoor chairs for my balcony. The first outdoor chairs I seriously considered was a pair of those Adirondack chairs. You know, the ones that sort of look like a picket fence. I always thought they were pretty. Pretty to look at but they sat low on the ground...w-a-a-a-y too low for my comfort! Then I saw this patio furniture, also pretty but much too fancy for my tastes. So I kept looking and as I turned a corner, there they were! I saw the chairs I wanted. I'll give you a two-word hint. Rock...and...chair. Yep, you got it...rocking chairs!

There was this pretty white one and I wasted no time sitting myself into it. Ahhh, I'd found my chair! I got it home and brought it out onto my balcony. I'll bet I sat out there in it for over an hour. The weather was perfectly beautiful that day, a brilliant, sunny summer afternoon. I sat watching the fluffy white clouds, birds soaring through the skies and could even see jet planes off in the distance, headed toward LAX. For a moment there, I closed my eyes and almost feel asleep as I continued to rock.Do you have rocking chair? They are so wonderful. When you get all stressed out, when you don't want to listen to music or watch TV, you can go sit in your rocking chair because...We will, we will rock you...to a better and more calming place.Love,
