Guest guest
SERIOUSLY SERIOUS Sunday, 12 October 2008 There was a point in my weight-loss journey where I became very angry with myself about being such a diet flip-flopper. And I'd get so angry with myself because I wasn't losing weight the way I wanted to. If you'll recall, we talked about debates yesterday. Well, I used to debate with myself all day long. And to be honest, I was pretty tough on myself, maybe too tough. I'd look in the mirror and declare to myself, ", you're not taking this weight-loss issue seriously enough!"So, I got serious, starting in the kitchen. Oh, I was driving myself crazy in that ktichen, measuring my portions. When I went to the grocery store, only the healthiest of foods would go into my cart. And a few times a day, I'd look into the mirror and give myself a very stern and serious look. And when I took my walks, I didn't look to the left or the right, I just walked so seriously, eyes remaining focused straight ahead, like I was in an Amey march or something! And when I stepped on that scale, oh...talk about your serious moments!Even when I talked to friends about my weight-loss journey, I never cracked a smile. I'd be just oh...so-o-o-o serious! Noting my intensity about losing the weight, my friends would often comment, "Uh, , do you think you might be taking this whole weight-loss thing a little too seriously?" What? Just what kind of a question was that? I'd usually bark some equally serious comment right back at them! Some of my friends didn't like to be with me so much anymore because of what trying to lose the weight was doing to my personality. And to tell you the truth, sometimes I didn't want to be with them anymore, either! Do you do the same thing I used to do? Are you also, maybe, taking losing the weight a little too seriously? Well, my advice to you is to lighten up on yourself! Yes, losing weight is a very serious subject. And for some of you it's even extremely serious because you're not very healthy right now.Yes, you've got to eat the best foods you can and work out the best you can. But...you've also got to have some fun along the way on this very serious journey. A little dash of fun is the spice you need in your weight-loss gumbo. And I do think if you added some lightness and fun to your life then the scales will do what you want them to do. And that is...weigh you less!So what will you do today that's a little fun for you? Oh, I know! How's about putting your hair in curlers, then put on your robe and bunny slippers and take your walk today dressed just like that!Love,
