Guest guest
FEAR OF... Thursday, 09 October 2008 In my October Newsletter, I talk about fears. And by the way, if you don't receive our monthly Newsletter, just sign up for it and you'll receive a new edition every month. You'll receive it as a special E-mail from us to you each month.Anyway, in the October Newsletter, I talked about the fears so many of us have. And oh, there really are a lot of them.. You know, like fear of the unknown. (I guess a lot of us have that one.) There is also the fear of flying. And on the subject of flying fears, I was in an emergency landing back in the 80's. And I'm telling you, it was very scary. For a while, the experience really changed my view of flying. I became a real white-knuckler of a flyer, holding on tight to my seat whenever a flight I was on ran into a little turbulence.A few years later, I was in a second emergency landing and I figured if I lived through this one, that was it. I was never going back up in the air on a jet, ever again! But with the help of meditation and prayer, I finally regained my flying confidence over the years.Getting back to our main subject of fear, there is also the fear of dying. I mean, truth is, we've all gotta do it someday but some people are, well, frightened to death...of death! There's also the fear of people laughing at you. (Another one those of us who've battled obesity can relate to.) Then there's the fear of failure and some people even a fear of success. I'm sure you're getting the picture by now. There are lots and lots of fears out there. But today, I want to focus on one particular kind of fear. Okay, all of you reading this message today are probably, like me, people pleasers. For some reason, it's just important for us to try and please everyone. From our parents, to our relatives, to friends, to teachers at school and even to our coworkers, it's just so important for us to try and please everyone. Sometimes it seems we're even trying to please strangers on the street! And if you were overweight as child, you may remember how important it was for you to try and please your parents...and the rest of your family by losing the weight. And I've got to tell you, that really doesn't work. This fear we're talking about here is the fear of not being able to lose the weight so you can please everyone in your life. Now, I want you all to listen up...Do you know the person you really need to please, especially when it comes to losing weight? Well, Ricky said it best in that oldies hit song of his, You've gotta please yourself!Don't be afraid that others won't notice your weight loss or say anything about it. That's their problem, not yours. You're doing this for you, you, you...not for them, them, them!Your homework assignment for today is make a list of all your fears. And after you write them all down, you have to face them. I mean it! Don't just push those fears into the back of your mind, face them and do your best and work to overcome them.Oh, I uh..."fear" this message is getting too long today. So I'll bid you adieu and but before I do, I want you to remember to let there be no fear in you!Love,
