Guest guest
OVERDRAWN Friday, 10 October 2008 I was at the bank last week to cash a check. And oh, I have to say how much I just love my bank. I've been doing business with them for decades. When I walk into the lobby at my branch office, I sing a little song to all of the tellers. Not too loud though, (for once). I sing it just loud enough to make them all smile as I walk in.Like I said, I was there to cash a check and there was a lady at the teller window next to me who was also cashing a check. But when the teller looked at her account balance on the bank's computer, there was not enough money in it to cover the check she had written. The teller apologized as she let her know, "I'm sorry, Mrs. s but your account's a little overdrawn and we cannot cash this check for you today."The lady was a disappointed and maybe a little embarrassed to hear the news. So she ended up taking out a cash advance on one of her credit cards instead.A lot of people write checks and there's not enough money in their accounts to cover the check. Have you ever been overdrawn? It can be quite embarrassing when, after writing a check for something, there's not enough money in your account to cover it.Now, I'll admit, I'm not the greatest in the world at balancing a checkbook. I told you a couple of days ago that I'm not-so-great at math so I can always end up a little bit off with my balance. Now there's another way to end up being "overdrawn" that I want to talk about. See, in your health checkbook, you get a certain number of calories in your account each day, just like the cash in your checking account. And as you consume those calories, you're making "withdrawals" from your account. So when all of your calories are "drawn," you're supposed to stop eating for the day. But a lot of people simply take out a "loan" of extra calories because they're not done spending, uh, I mean eating for the day.And then those extra calories you "borrow" only put more weight on you! You end up owing calories to the health bank. And oh...what an embarrassing mess that can be, right? Not to mention the "interest" you have to pay on that loan...added weight! Now there's a wallet for your banking checkbook and I've created a sort of wallet for your health checkbook, too. It's called the FoodMover. When you open it up, you see these little windows, each of them representing portions of foods from all six of the major food groups. Each morning when you open up your FoodMover checkbook, you'll see how many portions of food you have for that day.And as you eat and use up those portions, you close the little windows for the food you've eaten. When all of the windows are closed, you're done eating for that day. And by the way, the FoodMover does not make loans or offer "calorie advances."Just like you need to balance your budget with your bank, you need to balance your portions with the FoodMover. You know what losing weight is all about. It's about accountability. (See how I slipped the word "account" in there for you?) Just like you've got to count your money, you've got to count your "cals" if you want your bodies to be your pals!Take another look at the FoodMover and please, have a balanced day!Love,
