DO UNTO OTHERS

Sunday, 05 October 2008

You know, you're wonderful. Oh come on now, don't be shy, just take the compliment, why don't you? You're all wonderful people. See, after reading my daily messages, many of you E-mail to talk to me a little bit about that day's message. And when you do, you often take the time to tell me a little bit about your lives. By reading your E-mails, well, that's how I find out how really wonderful so many of you are to others.

I know that many of you take care of an ill spouse. Some of you have moved your parents into your homes in order to take care of them during this stage of their lives. Many of you have physically or mentally challenged children you're there for every step of the way. Some of you, through work with your churches, visit people in their homes who may not be feeling very well. You bring them food or a book to tread. Some of you volunteer at a local hospital, giving of your time to those who are very, very ill. Some of you help feed the poor or do other charitable works for others less fortunate than yourselves. Or maybe you're a school teacher who spends extra time with a student who needs help with his or her studies. Some of you take care of neighbors who have become like a part of your own families now. And when a friend needs you, you're always there to lend not one helping hand but both hands to help them out.Now do you see why I think you're so wonderful? But I have to say, still, that even with your good works, I do worry about many of you. Because you do everything for others while doing nothing for yourselves. And I want you to change that. So on this Sunday, I want you to do something nice, just for you. I want you to take a break from all of the niceness you do for others and make some time to do something nice just for yourself. What will it be? Some shopping for a fun new outfit? Or maybe you'll just take a simple nap beneath a big shady tree. Remember that book you began reading a month ago? Well, how's about getting comfortable in a favorite chair and finishing it?

You see, we get a certain amount of niceness everyday. And if we don't save at least some of it for ourselves, then our lives can get a little bit out of balance. And we don't want that for you, do we? So please, by all means, keep doing all of the nice things you do for others. But don't wear yourself out. See, if you don't take good care of yourself, then you may not be able to continue to do the many nice things you do for others in your life.I am truly honored to know all of you wonderful people, my dear friends. Please, keep spreading that kindness you spread, oh so well. Just remember to save some of it just for you, okay? You deserve it and you need it!Love,
