Guest guest
WAY DOWN YONDER... Saturday, 27 September 2008 Hello my cher. Oh, look at me...talking like some Louisiana Cajun boy in love. Well, I am in love! With my hometown of New Orleans, that is. That's where I am today. It's so-o-o-o good to be home! I arrived late yesterday afternoon and soon after settling into my hotel, I walked over to the French Quarter to say hello to many of the people I know there. I went to the pralines store I worked at when I was a kid. I walked up and down Royal Street looking in the windows of the many antique stores. Then I walked over to St. Louis Street to see the home where I was raised. Our old house has been converted now into five apartments. And I have to say, they really keep the old place looking nice and clean. I sat by the steps at the front door and just reminisced about the many good times I had growing up in the French Quarter. Then I walked down Bourbon Street. People who'd already had a few drinks would spot me and say, "Hey , can we buy you a drink?" I'd wave, smile and give them a big "No, but thank you." I'm telling you, I ended up with my own little parade of people as I continued my walk through the Quarter. It really was fun. That evening, I took my brother, Lenny and his wife, out for dinner at our favorite restaurant, Arnauds. My lifelong friend, Susie was there along with her husband Bill and her mother, sweet and fun Sadie, who just turned 84 years-old. Oh I know, you're dying to know what I had for dinner. Well, oysters, of course! I was raised on oysters and I only eat them when I'm in New Orleans. a couple of times a year. My parents loved them but Lenny? Please, he wouldn't touch them! In fact, you should see my brother's face when that plate of oysters arrives at the table. LOL.I always sit next to Sadie at dinner. I'm telling you, at 84 years-old, she still has a ravishing appetite and I like to be able to share my oysters with her. She loves them, too. After dinner, I took another short walk before returning to my hotel. I'm in town because today, I'm teaching a Sweatin' class at Harrah's Casino. They're having a big Sweatin' To The Oldies Slots Tournament and I'm sure it's going to be lots of fun! After the tournament, I'll spend a little more time with Lenny and before heading home to Los Angeles. You know, the person who said you can "Never go home again" had it wrong. I do it all the time and I just love going home to New Orleans!I wish you were here to take class with me today!Love,
