You can choose waht size you want to print, from 3 x 5 index cards up to

normal 8.5 x 11 inch paper.

> When it prints does it show exchanges?

Yep. If you look in our Files section you'll see that all the recipes

posted from Mastercook have the exchange info on them. Our sister list,

rsdeal has hundreds of such recipes with

exchanges.

> Is it easy to use?

I've been using MC from its freeware days in the early 1990's through

version 6 and yes, it's very easy to use. I stopped getting upgrades

mostly because my old 1998 computer can't handle them. It's currently up

to version 9.

While the official Mastercook web site seems to disappear now and then,

there's an unofficial site with all the information you'll ever need

about the program:

PamE's MasterCook 5+ Tips & Tutorials

http://mc6help.tripod.com/

PamE's MasterCook Cupboard

and a group, too.

The initial Blast Off week used to be 1000 calories, then you would go

up to the calorie amount based on your current weight. When the Slim

Away Everyday package came out he increased this to 1200. That's about

the only change since the first set of Deal A Meal cards were developed.

Did you see 's message of the day about the food mover earlier

this week?

to and

This was the main reason I downloaded Mastercook all those many years

ago - it was the only recipe software out there that did give the

diabetic exchanges. The program I was using before that, Meal Master,

was a good program, but no exchange info.

Nowaday, with the Internet as big as it is, there are many on-line

calorie counting sites, as you found out, but I don't think any of them

give exchange info.

Our Links page:

100-plus/links

has a folder called Exchanges, and in it you'll find the url to many

places that *do* give exchange information, including for fast food and

packaged foods. I hope none are outdated.

When the big push for low-carb came about, lots of companies that used

to give the diabetic exchange info no longer did, especially when the

diabetic associations themselves started pushing more towards carb

counting/glycemic index ranking than exchanges. The pendulum seems to be

slowly pushing its way back to the 4 food groups and balanced diets

again, so perhaps exchanges will come back into vogue again.

Thanks for the links. I have been checking them out.

On payday I plan on getting master cook 9.

This after noon I am buying a 3 ring binder / dividers ect.

I am setting up a diet journals per Dr's orders.

It will have my recipes / menu's / shopping lists in it.

And other hints / tips / suggestions / poems / stories and any thing else

that inspires me to stay on my diet.

I already started my spiral notebook where I write down what I actualy ate /

date time / how I was feeling ect.

Its part of my homework for my doctor.

I know I eat based on my feelings. (I tend to over eat when under stress.)

I am seeing a doctor for help on dealing with stress / diet / blood pressure
