R-I-I-I-I-N-N-N-G!

Did you hear it? Oh, I can hear those school bells ringing everywhere right now. Yep, it's almost time for all the students of America to go back to school. (If they haven't started already!)I remember as a kid, my parents would take my brother, Lenny and I to shop for our school supplies. After being issued all of my school books, I'd put these really fun book covers on each of them. (Remember them?)

At the school I attended, we had to wear school uniforms. (And I hear a lot of schools have their students wearing uniforms now!) I can remember my mother taking us out to buy those "beautiful" beige ensembles. I knew, even back then, that beige was not my color. As a matter of fact, I don't think beige is anyone's color. LOL!Oh how I still remember those first days of school each September. But of all my memories of that first day sitting at my desk in the classroom, an even greater memory is of my watching the clock. Waiting for the school day to end? No...gotcha! I'd be watching that clock waiting for the hands to strike 12 noon...for lunch time!Oh, did we ever have the best lunches just about anywhere, I'm sure! Those ladies in our school's cafeteria really knew how to cook! I mean, did your school ever serve delicious gumbo or trout almadine? (Mmmm!)There were a lot of things I liked about school, I mean besides lunch. And I hope our students this year will work hard to excel the entire school year.

Most of us grownups, even though we don't have to get to the school house each morning, still have a lot to learn. I mean, we should all be educating ourselves everyday. Learning new things about life helps keep us young. You know, I often envy those people in their 50's, 60's or even their 70's who go back to school to further their educations by earning a postgraduate degree. (So smart!) It just goes to show you that we are never too old to learn some "new tricks!"So as our students go back to school, we must all go back to school. And what are our courses this year? Well, let's see...Nutrition, Exercise Physiology and the Pursuit of Happiness. And what's your homework for these courses? Here ya' go. Start looking at your portions more carefully. If you have a FoodMover, take the time to really study your food exchange booklet. Work hard to educate yourselves more about the healthy foods you eat and remember, like I said, to watch those portions sizes, too.

And by the way, there is so much information about the body to be found on the Internet. What an amazing tool it is! Take advantage of it. Google subjects like bones and muscles and learn more about all the wonders that live beneath your skin. And as far as finding happiness, there's no book on it. That's something that has to come from your mind, body and soul.So let's all get back to school together, shall we? Let's work hard to make the Honor Roll by getting straight A's! (Something I never got in school.) But we're all going to make the Honor Roll this school year by taking good care of ourselves!Love,
