Guest guest
WHO KNEW FRUITS HAD SUCH POWER? Thursday, 21 August 2008 Yesterday, I told you all about the healthy benefits of eating your vegetables. So, let me ask, did have a delicious salad yesterday? Yeah? And while you were munching on it, did you think about how happy you were making your body at the same time? Because you were, you know! Well, today, we're going to talk about the power of fruit. And by the time we finish this little talk, I guarantee, you'll want to run and make a pretty fruit salad for yourself. Ready? Cause here we go...An apple a day helps keep the doctor away. There's some truth to that old saying. Eating apples helps protect your heart, prevents constipation, improves your lung capacity and cushions your joints. So whadda you think of them apples?!Yes, you'll have some bananas! Bananas protect your heart, quiets a nagging cough, strengthens your bones and can help with that occasional diarrhea.Don't you just love cantaloupes? Well, you should. Cantaloupe helps your eyesight, controls blood pressure, lowers cholesterol and helps support your immune system. I cannot tell a lie. Wait 'til I tell you about cherries. Cherries combat cancer, help end insomnia, slows the aging process and shields against the onset of Alzheimer's disease. So see, life is a bowl of cherries! You should never slice a grapefruit and smash half of it into someone's face, like Cagne did in that old movie from the 30's. Hey, grapefruit are much to precious to be wasted like that. Grapefruit protects against heart attacks, helps prevent strokes, combats prostate cancer and lowers cholesterol. No sour grapes here! Did you know that grapes can save your eyesight, conquer kidney stones, enhance your blood flow and protect your heart? Oh, those great grapes! This time of year, peaches are in peak season and I have some in my house right now. And why do I eat them? Because I want a peaches and cream complexion, that's why. Peaches are not only sweet and tasty but they also help prevent constipation, helps hemorrhoids and aid in digestion. How peachy keen! And let's not forget that summer time favorite, good old strawberries. (They grow some fine ones back in my home state of Louisiana.) Strawberries combat cancer, boost your memory and can even help ease stress. Now I just love to make a delicious fruit salad. And to make one, I pick about six or eight or my favorite fruits that are in season and cut them all into bite-size pieces. After I've cut them all up, I squeeze a few drops of lemon juice on top. And by the way, lemon juice also combats cancer, protects your heart and smoothes your skin. One more thing, on top of the fruit salad, I add a few teaspoons of honey and why? Well, along with the healthy sweetness it adds to the salad, honey also helps heal wounds, aids in digestion, guards against ulcers and fights allergies. Before I toss my salad, I throw in a pinch of cardamon. In case you haven't heard of it, cardamon is a dry spice you'll find in your supermarket spice section. Oh, I can't describe the taste. I really don't know what else you can put it on, all I know is that it makes a fruit salad into a really spectacular tasting fruit salad. Oh, you've gotta try it! Once you've added that pinch of cardamon, then toss the salad, place it in a covered container and let it chill in the fridge. What a healthy and delicious treat. You should have a bowl of tasty fruit salad every morning for breakfast! So now that I've given you some really useful knowledge about fruits and vegetables, I hope you'll respect these food groups more and include more of them in your healthy food plan!Love,
