Guest guest
BAGS UNDER MY EYES Friday, 22 August 2008 All of the eye cream in the world can't take away the bags that are under my eyes right now. And why are they there? Well, because I've been staying up so late watching Olympics coverage! Oh, I just love the Summer Olympics! I watch as much of this amazing world athletic competition as I can. I've watched the Olympics for years and through the course of my life, I've been privileged to actually meet many of the Olympic medalists. And one thing I noticed they all had in common is that there was an energy about them that's just hard to describe.Watching this year's competition on TV, I see that same energy and fire in each athlete. I've watched lots of the swimming competitions and I have to say congratulations to all of the swimmers on the U.S. Olympics team. And just look at that Phelps! I watched an interview with him and his parents. He talked about how when he was younger, he was often the odd-kid out. (A lot of us can relate to that part of his story, I'm sure.) He was often made fun of and called names but when that happened, what did he do? Well, he just got into that pool and swam! And boy, has all that swimming ever paid off! (He's got to be part fish, I just know it!) I also watched lots of the gymnasts, the runners, the cyclists and so many other athletes in so many categories. And really, my jaw simply dropped as I watched them. I mean, how can they run so fast and for so long? How can they keep up their energy levels when they swim all of those laps? It's just amazing to me what they can do with their bodies. But it's all possible, if you train, work hard and take good care of your body and mind. (Pay attention. There's a lesson in there for all of us!)One thing I've noticed about this year's Olympic athletes is that many of them are in their 30's and even their 40's, competing against teens and young adults. I think that's fabulous! A prime example is 41 year-old Dara , another U.S, swimmer. She's won three Silver Medals! (You go, girl!) It's proof that a positive attitude and a good game plan has no age barrier! I wish there were an "Aerobic Dancing" category included in the Olympic Games! Oh, I can close my eyes and see my outfit now! I'd start a whole new worldwide fashion trend! People would be wearing sparkly tank tops from Budapest, to Nigeria and even Dubai! I might even have to open up little aerobic clothing boutiques in stores around the world. I mean, there you'd be on holiday in Rome, turn a corner and you'd see me staring down at you from a 40-foot billboard! Okay...back to reality!Congratulations to all of the men and women doing such a fine job representing our country in the Beijing 2008 Olympics. May God be with you all through the remainder of the games and give you all safe journeys home.Love,
