My friends have all arrived in Los Angeles to be part of our October Weekend Retreat! My staff and I have planned this for months and we have so much to share with everyone here for this exciting weekend. I already know quite a few of the people coming in but some of them I will be meeting for the very first time. I sent everyone in our group a journal before they arrived. They had a little "homework" assignment to do before they got here to Los Angeles. That is, they had to write a little bit about themselves in their journals so I could know them better. They also had to write down the reasons they wanted to lose weight. During this weekend, they'll have more homework to do in their journals, too.What's great about journaling is that you're writing down your own opinions of yourself and not anyone else's. And, I should point out, your opinion of yourself is so much more important than anyone else's!I'm sure it'll come as no surprise to you that this weekend will be filled with lots of exercise. Oh yes. Our group will take part in cardio classes along with an incredible toning class led by LA's own fitness expert Effinger.One of the cardio classes will be taught by all of my instructors at Slimmons. We call it a "Round Robin" class. In it, each instructor chooses the song she wants the class to sweat to during her teaching segment.There will also be a nutrition class called Food For Thought. In this class, everyone will learn all about portions, about what's really in restaurant foods and how to create their own easy-to-make, healthy, meals right at home.We'll also have a Jeopardy-styled game show where team members will have to answer questions all about health. (Just like Trebek's instructions..."All of your answers must be presented in the form of a question!") On Saturday night, we have a dance/karaoke evening. It'll be such fun! We have ten professional dancers coming in to teach everything from the Jive to the Electric Slide to fun dances from a few of the "oldies" decades. After the dance comes karaoke! On Friday, the day everyone comes in, those who want to sing will be able to make their choices from a long list of over 100 songs. They will choose the song they want to sing and then perform it for everyone Saturday night at the show. There will be judges and cash prizes awarded. Oh, I can't wait to be serenaded!We have lots of fun and lots more sweat planned for our final day together on Sunday. After that, everyone will head for the airport to catch their flights home.You know, I think you should plan a little retreat for yourself this weekend. Take some time to educate yourselves about the foods you eat. Make the time to create healthy meals for yourselves all weekend long. Also, strive to get in an hour, up to an hour-and-a-half of exercise each day this weekend. Be good to you for the next three days. Do some nice things just for you. And oh yeah...grab your hair brush, pretend it's your microphone and sing one of these two songs while you're in the shower or the bathtub. I want you to sing either Achy Breaky Heart or You Light Up My Life.
