Guest guest
Daily Tip for Friday, November 28, 2008 The Truth About "Healthy Entrees" Plenty of chain restaurants offer "healthy" meal choices. But the words on your menu may not translate correctly to what shows up on your plate. Take it from HealthGal nutritionist Amy Hendel, you can't always count on the restaurant to have your back. Here's how to avoid pitfalls while dining out: When you order stir-fried foods, you assume that little oil is used. Actually quite a lot of oil is used, so ask for steamed vegetables and some sauce on the side for dipping. When you order grilled fish, you may not realize that they still use butter or oil—and lots of it. Ask to have it prepared "specifically without oil or butter" and ditto for the preparation of steamed vegetables. Even steamed veggies can have some butter melted on it for flavor. Watch the salad dressing—even on the side. You start spooning or dipping and you end up with... a lot of dressing. Create your own oil and vinegar dressing at the table and then use two teaspoonfuls. *~*~*~* "You can deprive the body, but the soul needs chocolate" -Sapphyre *~*~*~* "Meditate. Live purely.
